Temp gauge

Having temp gauge issues in my 89. Brand new sender. Non dummy cluster. Nothing happens doing the test un plugging it. Tried running a wire from it straight to the cluster but that just burnt up the cluster copper traces. Is there any way to run a new wire for these without it burning up?

Historical VIN Search

Good evening, does anybody have any resources available to look up the last registered name or owner of a historical VIN from pre-1981? I’m looking to track down an old car my dad to see if I could try to buy it back, if it’s still out there. Thank you!

My cab leak locations

The baby powder trick worked great!!! Now I need to pinpoint the leaks for repair. Driver side had one up under the foam pad behind the pedals. It's likely coming from the firewall, correct? Also, Driver side had water on the door speaker grill as well as the floor. There is a small gap between the vent and main windows. Maybe leak is there? Last leak on driver side I think is coming in from the top of the door frame. don't know if the seal is bad or the door frame is bent or both. Water will come in through there if run through a car wash. The passenger side leak is also firewall, I think. Before the rain came through, I took off the antenna and coated the plastic parts with flex seal. Thinking that and potential leaks from there would be solved. Then there is the back window. Are the seals around the window the only areas water will leak? Is that repaired only with a new gasket?

Leaf Spring Shackles or Bushings help

I'm working on replacing my original springs with new springs from General Springs. Have one off and removed the shackle and bushing. Trying to find a new shackle with the bushing already installed or new bushings, but keep getting ones the say they fit, but are for Cherokee and the shackle is around 1-1/4" shorter. (MOOG K10405 for example and even the MOOG site says compatible with both Comanche and Cherokee and will ride at stock height... how when they're different lengths?) The bushings I got would fit if the metal sleeve in the shackle was removed, but it is crimped in the center and that looks like it'd be way to much work to attempt that. I'm also looking for an inexpensive OEM replacement, not super heavy duty (pricey) off-road stuff.

How crucial are pressure plate locating dowels/pins?

Finally tucking into the AX15 swap for my 3.4 and noticed that the pressure plate I have doesn't have holes for the locating dowel/pins. Looking at other clutch kits that would fit on rockauto some other pressure plates seem like they have holes that would be in the right location, but I don't want to buy a full clutch kit when I'm only going to be using the pressure plate. The pressure plate I have is the only one listed on RA for both the Comanche and the 91 2.8 S10 I'm cobbling parts together for this swap, and looking other places pressure plates by themselves aren't common for this application. All that to say, would the clutch be fine with just the 6 bolts holding the pressure plate in place? I wouldn't think the torque of the 3.4 would be enough to make the pressure plate twist in place, but I don't know.

Rear axle swap ideas

I wanna swap in a better rear end with a locker to handle my ~400hp om606. All I really care about is I want the same width as my dana44, disc brakes, the same bolt pattern, and something easy enough to find in a junkyard or off marketplace. Maybe an 8.8 or a 9 inch? Any recommendations?

Powdered Comanche? Yes, please!

I'm the first admit that I am slow to finish a project. I had an art teacher in high school named Mabel Bullock. Mrs. Bullock once described me thusly: "Tommy, you are slower than molasses in the winter time!" I can't disagree. However, ADD had not been labeled in the 80's and I was definitely a distracted kid. I mentioned this because I post project updates sporadically, or not at all. I am trying to do better because the feedback here is usually valuable and many of you are just flat-out Comanche nerds and like seeing what others are doing. So, I have been following the guides and comments about floor pan repair. Mine weren't too bad. I've cleaned, coated and Bondo-ed the holes. I sprinkled baby powder this morning because we're expecting rain tomorrow. I'm really interested to see how well the Magical Powdered Comanche can magically reveal the leak locations!!! I'm kidding. I know how it works. It's just a clever idea.

bench seat- broken stud/bolt

Hey all, I just finished reupholstering my comanches bench seat and found the backrests latch on one side broke. Is this bolt that i could extract and replace? Or a stud i could weld something onto? Or is the frame trash?

Head replacement: what else to do?

Title says it all. In the near future I will be replacing the head with a fresh one. With the head (and all the necessary parts to do so) removed, what other things would be worth changing while I have the space? If I’m doing all that effort I’m for sure thinking about changing out my old rusty exhaust manifold and downpipe. Head gasket of course lol.

Air Conditioning/Heater Core and HVAC Box Question

My Comanche currently has an AC compressor delete pully. I am swapping my interior and while I have the dash out, I am considering throwing in a compressor and pulling the hvac box to replace the heater core, blower motor, and a/c accumulator/drier. My question would be is it best to buy all new parts, and if so is there a kit out there that includes the a/c lines as well? Or should I pull most of it from the JY? Just wondering if anyone has done something similar and has any recommendations, because it does look pricey. At the same time, why not do it now since I have the access.

Factory rear wiring routing

Hey, does anybody know how the wiring harness that comes through the floor and runs to the tail lights is routed from the factory? Every Comanche I’ve seen just has the wires haphazardly tied up. I’d just like to mount them properly but not have them interfere with the gas tank.
