I wanted to share what I found hollowing cork for the first time. I don’t need to do it as I hunt form the boat. I started working on some over size divers. These are 21% larger than life size. All the same body pattern. Using my last piece of Duck Blind cork I made an upright blue bill. Finished weight: 2 lb 11.3 oz With keel and lead to self right. 3 lb 10.5 oz A little heavy. Now I’m using some Jelinek Cork, this stuff is much denser and heavier than the Duck Blind... Read more

I need to build an oar for a Joppa flats sneak boat. Any information would greatly appreciated
For you all who hunt over wood decoys, do you repaint or touch up your decoys to keep them bright or do you leave all the battle scars, pellet holes, chips and patina as is for the life of your decoys? Just curious.
I totally forgot this song existed. Stumbled across it today and am much more impressed now than when it came out in 1992. Some songs don't age well. This one got way better. Blind Melon Change - YouTube So I'm editing this thread making it one that folks can add to whenever they feel the need to share music. I think everyone that knows me well enough gets I listen to music, a lot. Sometimes I'll hear a song that compels me to share and this thread seems like a good place to... Read more
For years I have been blissfully ignorant and have used Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil. Not until recently did I learn that linseed oil is far down the totem pole compared to tung oil. Trouble was, I didn't have a month to finish my solo canoe yoke. After investigating several products, I stumbled upon polymerized tung oil that dramatically cuts the dry time. I don't imagine it is the right product for the beautiful calls being made here but I thought I would pass it along. RM
A Eurasian wigeon takes a left turn at Albuquerque, and… Be nice to each other.
Before finding duckboats.net I saw a Wilderness kayak Chesapeake in an advertisement that I became very interested in. It was fashioned similar to a Poke boat that was not available around here but this one was available near me. They were available in fiberglass and a kevlar model. After see it and finding out it was listed at $1799, it was way above my pay grade. They weren't offered long, maybe 6 years before they were discontinued. I've never seen another around here. Fast forward 20... Read more
A big thanks to Sharp eyed Bobby Keeney for the lead on my latest resto candidate. An early Alvin Beal ( Canton NJ) rail skiff. All mahogany and white cedar. She needs some TLC but should be a nice worker in the rice. All mahogany and white cedar construction. She was found by the seller behind a barn only 2 miles from where she was originally built in Beals shop. I'm planning on having her in shape for Septembers Tuckerton show.

I've got a ~2 year old 6 hp Suzuki 4 stroke. Bought new and has been a great motor. About 75% of my use is at dead low idle trolling speeds, often for 4 hours or more on multiple occasions. Have never had an issue. Starts on the 1st or 2nd pull and has run flawlessly until a trip last weekend. The motor has been sitting since May. Before the trip I dragged it over to the local pond where it started right up, and I ran it for 5 minutes or so with no problem. When I hauled it north and... Read more
Well, once again I've gotten myself into yet another find. This time something that actually fits tucked away in the barn rafters... this past Labor Day weekend I received a message from a friend who discovered this unique craft locally to me here on Long Island's south shore. The find was an 11' 6" handmade kayak listed at $200 with a short description detailing its dimensions and year constructed. Upon arrival I spoke with the owner who received this craft at a yard sale being told the... Read more
