This is a question of taste, there is no right answer. D&D species vaguely fall into three categories. Those that are essentially humans with some exaggerated features, (size, pointy ears, etc), those who are a mixture of human and animal (tabaxi, aarakroca), and those who are a mixture of human and monster (dragonborn, tiefling). I'm specifically interested into the latter two categories. For sake of argument, we'll call them monstrous species. D&D has depicted monstrous species in wildly... Read more

Magic item identification in B/X was never intuitive for me as a DM but I can deal with the majority of common magic items, the potions however is something that always bothered me. So now I'm prepping a module that has some neutralize poison potions available as loot in one of the starting rooms. And the potions are put there for a good reason, there are plenty of poison effects and monsters in the module. However I'm thinking to myself if the players will even ever use it? While some... After a horrifically long D&D campaign, my group switched over to Weird Heroes of Public Access . In WHPA, players are hosts of public access television shows who are tasked by the station manager with investigating various oddities around the small fictional town of Fairhaven. After a few sessions, the GM asked us how we were enjoying the game so far. One of the other players replied, "I'm having fun but I don't think it's because of the game itself." There's really not much to... Read more

How would you flesh him out for 3.5/etc.? He states his mother is the night itself. So...Nyx? His father strikes me as being Erebus or possibly Entropy itself. Would this be an accurate guess? Also...did anyone catch those Aztec death god statues in Legend? Regardless, Tim Curry definitely played his role better than anyone else ever could have. He will be missed.
Renegade is ending support for its Essence20 game system, in favor of Dungeons & Dragons 5.5E. Today, Renegade announced it was planning on publishing new editions of its Transformers, GI Joe, and Power Rangers RPG systems. However, the new editions will not use the bespoke Essence20 game system created by Renegade. Instead, the new editions will use a modified version of Dungeons & Dragons 5.5E. Renegade will also release Essence20 to 5.5E conversion guides for free on their... Read more

Munchkin , the legendary card game from Steve Jackson Games, illustrated by John Kovalic, launched in 2001 and is a parody of roleplaying game tropes. It has been expanded many times with sets based on various themes from Cthulhu to Marvel to Rick and Morty, with various more general sets based on zombie, pirates, vampires, and more. In addition, there have been various boardgames, it' won awards, and got second edition this year. In short, it's iconic. And now... it's... Read more

Note he loves 5e so the title is a bit tongue in cheek. He goes into the idea and design behind bonus actions and why he retreats the feature he added to the game.
