Very nice gun Craig. It is interesting to observe some of these guns with no engraving or Fox nomenclature to others that have A.H. Fox on the frame with the light engraving. I think these SP’s, SPE’s and the SPE Skeet & Upland guns are a corner of the Fox collecting/shooting space that is significantly under appreciated. Brett

Nice Craig. And a 26" gun with M/F chokes.

She's a beauty.

As of 9-3-23 out of the 3010 guns in his Model 71 survey he had recorded 135 with the 20” barrel. If you have access to the Summer 2021 Winchester Collector magazine there is a very informative article in there on 71’s. You can also see it online at the Winchester Collector forum I believe. I found a flip page version of Bert Hartman's Model 71 article at the Winchester Collector's site -- https://winchestercollector.org/articles/202106A/2/ I have been in contact with Bert over on the wet side of Washington and added my five Model 71s to his list. He tells me the current survey total now stands at 3,721 (7.873%) of the total production. He tells me that despite not appearing in the Winchester catalogs until 1938, the 20-inch barrel was available from the get-go. His tables now show 130 20-inch barrel Model 71s built before February 1938, clear down to low three-digit serial numbers. That the 20-inch barrels were available from the beginning makes sense as the Model 70, also introduced in 1936, was offered with 20-inch barrels from the beginning.

She is learning.

That's an amazing video and some mighty fine shooting. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Here some pictures of the SP 12ga 26" I bought at the September G&D auction. I just had to have one to fill an empty slot in my collection. Plan to take it preserve pheasant hunting next week for it's first outing. Outstanding high quality and condition example you rarely see. Not the AH Fox name anywhere!

I don't have a bear box, but I do have a nice Model 71. Mine is a first year Deluxe stocked in dark English walnut by John Oberlies of Dayton, Ohio for Robert Patterson, then owner of National Cash Register. A silver inletted plate indicates that it was built by Oberlies in 1936. It is a bolt peep gun, with Winchester quick detachable swivels and a steel stippled Oberlies buttplate. This is the first Oberlies buttplate I have seen that wasn't brass. All bright surfaces except the hammer were chased. Like most Patterson guns, it shows no evidence that it has ever been fired. Some day I will shoot it if I can locate some ammunition.

Fantastic work Frank! That Super is working really well for you. I'm looking forward to seeing it very soon! Wild Wings

Yes they are. We've been blessed with abundant rainfall this year so we have plenty of water around. It looks like a bumper crop of ducks this year so I'm sure that when they head south you guys should have some great hunts coming soon. Wild Wings

My great grandfather purchased it directly from a hardware store in Binghamton NY, of which an Uncle of his was working. Considering it’s a custom stock, is the checkering possible? We actually even have the original sales tag from the gun as well which is neat. Any more information would be much appreciated! Can you tell us the name of the hardware store? My wife's grandfather co-founded and ran A.L. Davis hardware and farm equipment store in downtown Binghamton for many years. Kevin
