Greg, yes removing the plywood floor makes the dinghy significantly lighter. Roger Olson, the dinghy’s designer did this on his Cherub and put moved the flotation on the outside while using it in Panama
Hi Wayne, I haven’t seen a Cherub with the floor removed before. Do you think it was worthwhile to do so? Are the fenders rigged so that they can also be used on the outside of the gunwales as a flotation collar?
Dear friends, I want to give you update on this project and pick your brains once again. I ended up going with PTF bronze chainplates. I am finally back to my boat and starting the refit. I recently opened the boxes with the chainplates. They are massive. Much thicker and heavier than SS ones. I have removed all the interior strip boards in the cabin and forward cabin (except the ones in the quarter berth - too complicated) - to access the chainplates bolts, revarnish the strips, paint the fiberglass inside of the hull and probably replace the polystyrene insulation with closed cell foam if i can source some. So far I have managed to remove all the plates fairly easily except the port forward one, where i had the unpleasant surprise of finding out that the nuts and backing plates are glassed over, and the bobstay plate that will require a lot of grinding and chiseling as suggested by Bil. The holes of the new plates won’t fit exactly the existing ones on the hull so I will have to fill and redrill. Now I have a few issues to solve and want to make sure i don’t do anything silly when dealing with the expensive bronze plates. the chainplates have bends where the angle is a little too steep (see photos) and don’t sit well on the wooden channels/rub rails, but are more elevated. Given the thickness, they are hard to bend. Even if i were able to bring them to sit against the channels and the hull by tightening the bolts, they would not sit flat on the channels, but at an angle. On

My 2GM20F is in need of this repair now! The main concern for me is the FI pump. Would appreciate any additional details, suggestions or tips to proceed. I didnt really comprehend any of the instructions mentioned related to the FI pump (removal or replacement) i can appreciate that this piece alone has a lot of intricate parts tgat must be reassembled precisely so I want to educate myself on it fully before turning any wrenches.
Good Afternoon, My partner and I have a BCC in Alameda and love your dinghy. If possible, would be great to chat with you more about it and take a look. I will send you a direct message, thanks!!
