Discovered by Masayoshi Yano in Japan. Name means Red Lion. Has a very compact growth with red foliage in sun. Supposed to reach 4' tall and 3' wide in 10 years.

Introduced by Talon Buccholz. This cultivar is a stunning red to orange in spring. I just purchased it this past winter so I can't speak to the rest of the year yet, other than I know it is green through summer, with "vivid orange and red in autumn" according to Mr. Maple. This was the maple I've been most excited to see leaf out this spring, and it has lived up to my hopes! I'll post updates as it progresses this year. View attachment 257412 View attachment 257413 ...
