Discovered by Masayoshi Yano in Japan. Name means Red Lion. Has a very compact growth with red foliage in sun. Supposed to reach 4' tall and 3' wide in 10 years.

Introduced by Talon Buccholz. This cultivar is a stunning red to orange in spring. I just purchased it this past winter so I can't speak to the rest of the year yet, other than I know it is green through summer, with "vivid orange and red in autumn" according to Mr. Maple.
