The Junkyard
Reimplementation of Bullfrogs Flood for Amiga/Atari

Whilst the game itself isn't in scope for ScummVM, it's a cool example of how modern AI can be used as assistant in recreating source code for old games whose original sources may be long lost. Maybe even breathe new life into classic old games, just like the ScummVM project does for adventure/RPG games

White Birds, Dark Waters, and a Curse at the Louvre

The ScummVM Team is pleased to announce that Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy , The Cameron Files: The Secret at Loch Ness , and The Messenger / Louvre: The Final Curse_ are ready for public testing! In Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy , an old explorer’s final wish sends a young journalist to a hidden land with some precious cargo: the stolen egg of the legendary White Birds. Sail, drive, and puzzle your way through Benoît Sokal’s world of strange wildlife, rusting machinery, and forgotten history. Loch Ness takes private investigator Alan P. Cameron to the Scottish Highlands, where ghostly apparitions trouble Devil’s Ridge Manor—and his client has vanished. Search for clues, uncover a secret laboratory, and keep an eye on the loch. Some mysteries lurk beneath the surface. In The Messenger / Louvre: The Final Curse , agent Morgane Sinclair must recover four dangerous artefacts before the Black Templars can unleash their power. Travel through different eras of the Louvre’s history, mixing modern gadgets with ancient magic. This museum visit comes with considerably more at stake than the admission fee. All three games run on the PhoenixVR engine , also used by Dracula: Resurrection and Dracula 2: The Last Sanctuary . Please note that only the Windows versions of these games are supported. The Macintosh and PSX versions use a different engine. To join the testing, grab a recent daily development build and your original game data files. Report any bugs on our issue tracker , inclu

Reimplementation of Bullfrogs Flood for Amiga/Atari

Hi! Out of curiosity I wanted to know if I could use AI to reverse engineer and old Amiga game, namely Bullfrogs Flood, if anyone remembers that one... So i supplied an untouched disk image for the game, and the challenge for AI would be to: - Extract the binary files from the disk (harder than you think) - Dissamble the Motorola 68K Assembly code and convert it to C code - Implement the game for SDL - Expand upon the original game with multiplayer support and level editor Now i don´t know if this is exactly the right place to mention this, but if anyone is interested to check out the result after 4 weeks of work: https://github.com/VonKossa/ReFlood

Soltys and Sfinx in German

Infos: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sołtys_(Computerspiel) https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sfinx_(Computerspiel) This post is for German-speaking readers who might be interested in the Soltys and Sfinx games that I translated into German.

Four More Cases for Nancy Drew

Grab your magnifying glass and pack your bags, because Nancy is back on the road! We are pleased to announce that ScummVM now supports four more titles from the Nancy Drew adventure game series, taking the famous detective from a charming 1930s country inn all the way to the volcanic slopes of Hawaii. In Nancy Drew: Secret of the Old Clock, Nancy visits the Lilac Inn, run by 17-year-old Emily Crandall. A kindly neighbor promised Emily his estate, but when he dies, his will leaves everything to someone else! Meanwhile, objects vanish and reappear, and whispers echo through the empty halls of the inn. In Nancy Drew: Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon, Nancy and the Hardy Boys join socialite Lori Girard on a train trip to solve a century-old mystery: the disappearance of the train's original owner, Jake Hurley, rumored to have found a fabulous gold mine. But as soon as the journey begins, Lori herself vanishes... In Nancy Drew: Danger by Design, Nancy goes undercover in Paris as an assistant to Minette, a couture fashion designer who has been throwing tantrums, firing her staff, and refusing to be seen without a mask covering her face. What is she hiding? In Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave, Nancy arrives in Hawaii to assist entomologist Dr. Quigley Kim, only to find her camp ravaged and the doctor missing. Locals whisper that a legendary creature has awoken to prowl the island, and it's up to Nancy and the Hardy Boys to team up and crack the case. As usual, you will need the o

Monkey Island save files error "Invalid version"

Does anyone know of a way to change the headers on a save-game file? I've tried inspecting two of these files, and it seems to be just byte code. The save file is mostly just a compressed stream of binary data. Loading it is basically a series of function call that say "if the savegame has at least version number X, read the next Y bytes as if it was a TYPE". Changing the version number will cause it to read the wrong bytes into the wrong variables, no doubt causing all sorts of strange behavior. If you were to uncompress the savefile you could look at the first few bytes to see what the version number is. But I only know how to do that in Linux, where I could use something like: Code: $ zcat monkey-sega.s06 | xxd | head -300000000: 5343 564d 0000 0000 7b00 0000 5377 6f72 SCVM....{...Swor00000010: 6420 4d61 7374 6572 0000 0000 0000 0000 d Master........00000020: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 5448 4d42 ............THMB The first four bytes identify it as a savegame. The next four bytes are supposedly some sort of "size" field, but seem to always be 0. The next four bytes are the version number in little-endian format. 7b00 0000 hexadecimal is 123 decimal. ScummVM 2.9.0 used savegame version 121. ScummVM 2026.1.0 used savegame version 124. So it seems I was playing a development version somewhere between those two. Makes sense, because I bought a copy of the SEGA CD version of Monkey Island 1 not that long ago.

Question concerning Simon the Sorcerer 1 music

If it's trying to play MT-32 music on a General MIDI device without any kind of instrument re-mapping, the result is bound to sound... unusual. Even if it doesn't do anything fancy, the instrument sets of the MT-32 and General MIDI aren't the same: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_MIDI https://vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=MT-32 So what I think happening is that if ScummVM sees that it's playing music intended for the Roland MT-32, but thinks the device in the other end only understands General MIDI, it will print a warning message and try to modify the music on the fly to sound more like intended. That's what "We try to map the Roland MT-32 instruments to General MIDI ones" means. If you tell it that the device only looks like a General MIDI one, but is actually Roland MT-32 compatible so no instrument remapping is needed, it's probably going to sound the way you describe. Of course, I could be wrong... Hmm. I mean, it doesn't sound unusual. If I just have Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth selected as my audio device, the music sounds as though it's using an SC-55, which is unusual because I don't have it connected. I have SoundFonts downloaded for CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth, including an SC-55, but those have been unloaded. And it's not set to use VirtualMIDISynth, either. I know it says I'm using 2024 in that screenshot, but I've updated it to the latest now. As I say, I think the version I've installed is the original, which I know the DOS version makes use of the MT-32.

The Longest Journey audio pops

Okay so I think it is the German Patch that I used that has one broken audio file? I uses the GOG version but installed a german patch. After I installed the original 4CD German Version there is no pop in the ambient sound (happens in front of the cafe and subway) but there is a small pause there. I tried this on latest stable 3.0 and daylies. If this pause is normal idk, I'll have to check with the original exe files and can report back either way.

Monkey Island save files error "Invalid version"

Thank you for looking into the codebase for this! At this point I'm stumped as to why I am getting the Invalid version, as I'm currently running the most recent version of ScummVM. Does anyone know of a way to change the headers on a save-game file? I've tried inspecting two of these files, and it seems to be just byte code. Just for reference, my saved-game files are: monkey-ega.s00 monkey-ega.s01 monkey-ega.s02 monkey-ega.s03 monkey-ega.s04 monkey-ega.s05 monkey-ega.s06 monkey-ega.s07 monkey-ega.s08 monkey-ega.s09 timestamps And the timestamps file contains: monkey-ega.s08 4294967295 monkey-ega.s09 4294967295 monkey-ega.s06 4294967295 monkey-ega.s07 4294967295 monkey-ega.s04 4294967295 monkey-ega.s05 4294967295 monkey-ega.s02 4294967295 monkey-ega.s03 4294967295 monkey-ega.s00 4294967295 monkey-ega.s01 4294967295 timestamps 4294967295
