Fletcher Faro Vs Shetland 570

Fletcher Faro Vs Shetland 570. Anyone got experience with both these boats? I'm looking to know which is more seaworthy in rough coastal conditions and what size engine needed. I'll be sailing out of Cahersiveen in Kerry and looking for something small, trailerable and as seaworthy as possible with a cockpit big enough for 6 on a fair day and a small cabin. The rough weather requirements are for trips to Dingle and west cork etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First (proper) boat

Hello all, I currently have a Honwave t38 SIB with a 20hp but I’m thinking about getting a “proper” boat. It will be trailered and I will leave it on my drive. Thinking about a 2nd hand Westport Pilot 4 or similar. I’d go with a 50or 60hp outboard so I can tow a ring for the kids. But hopefully won’t cost me too much in fuel. Boat will be used for a bit of fun, I’ll try fishing although never done it in my life and just to be on the sea. I’m a 15 minute drive from tollsbury or... Read more

Diesel heater exhaust through a deck hatch?

I need to add heating in a fairly quick and temporary fashion. The plan is to use one of the 'all in one' diesel heaters that come in a box with the tank etc included. The exhaust will be piped upwards through a deck hatch, for which I'll need to knock up some sort of cover. I'm thinking plywood plus a silicone flashing maybe? I do also have an exhaust skin fitting which I could install, but being vertical it would tend to fill up with rainwater. Just wondering if anybody else has... Read more

Bent p bracket

Last 10 metres of 15 years sailing the boat before putting it up for sale and had first accident. Rope (mine) round prop. Bent p bracket about 25mm out of true. I thought an insurance job but wonder if it can be bent back. Can it? If so, how? No internal cracking of resin. Just a bend.

Hamble Dinghy Berthing?

I'm back on a Hamble mooring after a 6-year hiatus in the Baltic. My spot is 50 metres from my old one, up at the top of the river opposite Swanwick Marina and not far from the Jolly Sailor. Again, I'm facing the question of how to get back and forth from shore. I'm posting this hoping someone has some additional insight. In past years, I rented a dinghy spot from Swanwick Marina, where I previously berthed the mother ship for a year and a half after I bought her in 2009. That's very... Read more

Temporarily berth on South Coast

Being newly retired, it is time to fulfill my longtime dream. I want to sail around the UK taking a few years without crossing the channel from Holland every time. Starting on the south coast for that is our favorite area. We have been there lots of times. I really look forward to sailing there without a timescedule and having a keen eye on a weatherwindow for ging home... So I am looking for affordable harbours where I can leave the boat for the winterseason 27/28. Preferably on shore with... Read more

1994 Fairline Targa 38: Exterior Cockpit Lights (Radar Arch)

Hi all, My Targa 38 has 2 exterior lights in the cockpit, recessed the radar arch. Both work - but they are different makes (I assume one is original and the second has been replaced). One is definitely showing its age. I'd like to replace both - ideally with identical fittings so that I can simply swap them out (and connect up using existing wiring and connectors) Does anyone know the make/model of these light fittings? If so are they still available and from where? If not, has anyone... Read more
