Growing Fruit Forum

My in ground fig is starting to produce some Fruit. They are being swamped by ants the second they look ripe. What do I do. Not Happening to potted

Id plant jersey giant or millenium, 2 year crowns probably. Menards usually has them relatively cheap in the spring.

Does anyone have an XL like 8x8 grow tent? The more I look at the them the more I think their is my long term solution to winter and I need to find a way to afford one. I’m becoming less inclined to have a separate set up this year and be more fiscally responsible and get the grow tent next year. I think the key is using my own lights and just getting the online fan and then adding less expensive components. Would love to hear if they work well/don’t fall apart before spending so much money.

@scottfsmith I don’t know anything about Clark and a moderator, but if this is true, that moderator has to go, there probably isn’t anyone who did more to make growingfruit a place we want to come more than @clarkinks I never met him but I counted him as one of my friends whether or not he’d think of me that way, and he filled this forum with expertise and knowledge across all subjects. He is what most of us want to be, and he was the best mentor here, there is a gaping hole without him and I don’t think any of us will fill it any time soon. God bless Clark in the real world, the digital world is always toxic, even the best areas of it, and we hope he stepped away to improve his life and his family’s lives in a real way.

I think Honey Jar and Sugarcane are a good combo for you because they are top tier for fresh eating jujube They are easy to find. All the new varieties is hard to find because not many people have them yet. They are very expensive to buy like in the $200 a tree on some exotic trees nursery.

If that was my choices I would pick Legacy too. Luckily for me I have plenty of room to grow both enhancing my yield with excellent berries. I think Cara’s is better than both of these but yield also is low. So I have two plants. The mix of these berries is unbeatable. I do enjoy when friends are amazed at how good these blueberries are. Raz was kinds of a gimmick as it’s supposed to taste like raspberries ( it does not) it does at times and some years does have amazing hints of raspberries. Its own flavor is quite good and thus plant does not need hype. Its own flavor stands on its uniqueness. Sibling to Blue crop and Blueray. I want to try these now. Spartan is another keeper for Me. Early and delicious.

Trav: Have you ever tried grafting Clark’s Crab on to Callery? Clark has stepped away from participation in the forum. Hopefully he will return at some point. Clarkinks on a permanent vacation I enjoyed the forum but it’s time to walk away.

I like them better for fresh eating than european currants. I supposedly have Crandall. Taste is kind of reminiscent of a concord grape. They are more disease resistant than euros as well at my location. I do have problems with low production, but I recently added some seedlings for cross pollination so we shall see if that improves fruit set. Mine set flowers in extreme abundance.

Make sure that you have the right thing first…I mean when you see the ripe fruits. Then think about pruning.
