Looks like it went really well, and honestly that is the best kind of problem to have: too busy talking trains to remember to take photos. Big thanks to your meetup leader for saving the evidence! Glad to hear the layout pulled a crowd too, those festival setups are great for getting people who “just came to look” suddenly asking very specific questions about shinkansen, track, and where to buy one.

I do like the Tomix artwork they put on their complete formation sets.

Hugh, maybe soemthing in the wheel/axle assembly that is not making good conact but on both sets of wheels odd. Goobers like that can be super irritating but sounds like a good workaround fix now. jeff

I totally agree, her website is well worth a visit, since you introduced me to her work I often check back for inspiration. I bet you two have some fascinating conversations, it would be lovely to be able to join you both and pick your brains about all things miniature. Maybe one day!

You are nice and busy. Day 1 or Day 2 in the evening if the weather is clear you may want to consider a trip up to the switchback station of Obasute for a look at the night view. Day 3 the Aizu-Bange to Aizu-Wakamatsu section is pretty boring, if I’m guessing your train correctly you arrive at Aizu-Bange about sunset so I wouldn’t worry too much. Day 4 I’d really consider leaving very early and travelling via the Banetsu West and Uetsu Main lines to Akita. They are both very good and it seems you are game for some long days. Day 5 make sure to get a seat on the left. I’d consider only going as far as Hirosaki and staying there. Then travel on or incorporate the Owani line of the Konan Railway into the trip, it will close soon. If you catch Resort Shirakami No. 1 you also have time to stop off at Goshogowara for a trip on the Tsugaru Railway. The Hanawa line and the Aizu Railway are both great choices. Have a great trip!

One of the E235 arrived

Hi all My name's Tom, 37, and I live in the north east of Scotland. I'm planning a small diorama to get back into the hobby after boxing up my old UK and North American HO/OO stuff for the last time maybe 20 odd years ago. I've been playing cab ride videos in the background while working from home and I'm quite taken with the idea of making a small modular layout based loosely on the Nagaragawa railway in Gifu Prefecture. I'm calling it 'Mini-Ota'. I was considering N scale off the shelf items after seeing some nice stuff from Kato/Tomix but the gauge discrepancy bugs me and some of the models I want are daft money despite Japanese N being cheap in relative terms. So, instead, i've settled on scratch built S1067 on HO/OO track so when I do eventually get round to asking my dad to mail my old trains to me I can at least play with them rather than relegate them to their boxes in the basement. The planned layout is a modular single track branch line built on 1500x500 mm sections. It will be DC with a scratch built Nagara 300 railcar made from styrene and some 3D printed bits for detail. It's going to be a LONG term thing as i've 2 kids and a wife to look after and my time and funds available are like a toddler in a tiara - precious and short. I've seen some nice stuff on the forum and the atmosphere seems friendly so will be good to get to know some of you! The video that got me started with this

Correct. I honestly don't get it: the current on the wheels looks fine on the multimeter, but the voltage drop at the brass pickups (where the pointy axle ends sit) is crazy, despite them being spotless. I even tried the entire pickup setup from the motor car and it worked flawlessly without any flickering. Since Kato replacements are hard to come by in Germany anyway, hard-wiring it was just the easiest and cheapest fix.

Erik, So you isolated the issue to between the wheel and the truck pickup then, correct? jeff
