Makes me so damn upset seeing how others dont know how to properly care for pigs

Seeing the conditions online makes me consumed with sadness. Ignorance was bliss. Before i got pigs i didnr know about their care so would have lived in bliss. After getting my own and paying for expensive vets and researching about their care and needs and also being an empathetic animal lover, i am aware what they need to be happy and thrive. So this awareness now makes me devastated when i how most people online and family friends or whatever treat their guinea pigs. It gets me down... Read more

Boar Bond Not a Match Can they still live side by side?

Hi my Comet passed away a couple weeks ago and my Gabriel was very sad. I adopted a 6 month old and I tried to bond in neutral territory but it’s not a match. I have them in two large separate cages side by side but the 6 month old really wants to be with Gabriel in a super dominant way. Can they remain in their separate cages now after bonding didn’t work? Do I take him back? My apartment is small so cage set up cannot be adjusted. Alternatively I was thinking of adopting a baby but I... Read more

Popcorn Champs - Girls or Boys?

I’ve had girls for the past 10 years and two months ago got a boy (aged 1yr 6months). I’ve never seen a piggy popcorn as much he is always popcorning around. Sometimes just sitting there then suddenly jumping up and almost looking shocked. This led me to wonder do boars popcorn more? What’s your experience? Does gender make any difference? Here’s a pic of Hetty and Bertie (the popcorn king)

Newly bonded boars

My current 4 month old boys had a fall out and the current plan is to return one boy to the breeder and get a new friend for the one we keep. I am hoping to send them to a rescue shelter for their bonding and then after the days/weeks it takes to get them settled bring them home to hopefully the hutch or if not a new c&c if it gets too late in the year for outside to be suitable for the new one. Of the hides I've currently got one is a wooden log bridge and I've also got a cardboard tube... Read more

Forelimb amputation

Hello, My sweet boar underwent cystotomy surgery and has had a devastating complication where the extravasation of IV fluids caused swelling so severe that it appears he is going to lose his foot. Does anyone have experience with forelimb amputation that they can share? We are managing him currently with pain medication and supportive care while we wait for the tissue to declare itself but I am concerned that it doesn't look good and amputation will be the likely outcome. Obviously, if he... Read more

Bladder stones

Currently have a pig with a bladder stone that needs surgical intervention. He stopped eating initially and has been urinating blood, but has resumed eating since starting mediation and is pooping normally. Vet is of course recommending surgery ASAP which would be ideal except I’m going away in 2 days for a week. Trip is unfortunately non negotiable. My daughter will be looking after him but she has a disability and will struggle massively with his current med routine let alone post op... Read more

Lumps on Ginger

Hello, I’ve found 2 lumps on Ginger, a big one on her belly quite big, you can move it and squish it and a smaller harder one near her privates. I am absolutely terrified that it’s lymphoma (and I’ve got a gut feeling that it might be ) She is only quite a young pig at 1 year and 8 months old I felt it when i was doing my checks. These weren’t there yesterday. I’m going to try and book her in for an emergency appointment tomorrow morning. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Forum themes.

Can I ask you all which themes you use? For those who don't know what I mean, if you look at the bottom left ot the forum you'll see a paint brush with TGPF (and a name - mine is Dark Large) ideally I'd like to reduce the themes to light and dark, standard and large, with the default being light standard. If enough of you use each theme, I'll leave it as it is.

Hannah’s Herd thread!

Thought it was about time I made a dedicated ongoing thread about my herd. First, a little about me. I’m Hannah. Originally from the U.K. But moved to Australia with my boyfriend in September 2018. Animals are the biggest passion in my life, I love all creatures great and small. I take great joy in being around and caring for them. Small animals make my heart melt with cuteness and larger animals are my fantastic companions. I have 3 horses, 2 of which are Australian Brumbies which I... Read more

Adventures in the U.S.

I am currently only a summer sitter for two piggies. They have been here almost a week. I was told that if I brought them outside, they would be too afraid to move. Someone forgot to tell the pigs! One went left, one went right. I was surprised by how fast they are! I caught Princess Buttercup twice before actually getting her inside. Fart Blossom was not as “simple.” She discovered my lilac bush. I had to tell my friend about the situation. She was screaming on the phone that her gp was... Read more

Teeth issues and cage mates

Hi all, my 4 year old female piggy seems to be having some issues with her teeth. She has gradually lost a bit of weight and is now taking a lot longer to eat. She has been to the vets who said the front teeth were very slightly out of line but they are booking her in for a sedation to get a proper look at her molars and most likely file them down. I have a few questions relating to the teeth filing however in the meantime I am struggling to get her to eat as her two cage mates eat so much... Read more
