Uh oh, she's back! Hi from North Shore, Auckland 👋

Hi all, Jo here. Getting back into fishkeeping and thought i'd drop a hello 👋 It's so nice to see some familiar usernames on here! Not sure if any of you will remember me, but I have fond memories of the convos in forums & at meet-ups, getting waist-deep in mud on wild molly hunts 😅, and trading free labour for spending time with @livingart & his better half C's menagerie back in my early 20's (AKA ~20 years ago). Back then I kept FW tropical tanks and some herps, but downsized to nothing in 2013 following my marriage ending. From there I went back to uni for 7 years & studied bacteriophages/microbiology before doing a 180 and starting my own business in my old profession working with dogs 🤣. I now live on Auckland's north shore in a little flat by myself (if you don't count the dog & cat), and so far have resisted the urge to get any tanks (though I do have the materials for a paludarium build sitting in a cupboard waiting for me to get stuck into, haha!) I'm on the way to buying a new home in the next year or 2, and am spending the meantime getting educated & planning to set up my very first reef tank once I move to the new house. So i'm back in here reading guides & forum posts, and getting familiar with the process - i'm loving the learning curve and excited to get started, but also really enjoying being able to take my time researching & planning. Though knowing me, some FW trops will probably sneak into the house at some point once I get more involved... Keen to join AF

Plaster of Paris

This forum never stops giving! I just made some "Pickle Rick" easter island statues from a silicon mould and was curious if they could go in a tank nekkid, or needed coating...

Pea Puffers Wanted !

that's funny! down here in Dunedin we have an LPS who stocks them, although they are the ones that also stock the likes of badis and hillstream loaches so maybe they just like stocking rare fish. (plus they are a bit pricey) good luck hunting!

Pea Puffers Wanted !

would be best to talk to your local pet shop and see if you can get some on order from them - I haven't seen any for a little while unfortunately (Wellington also)

What brand of reef tanks do you currently like?

I would think any glazier would make one for you. You tell them what size and they will build it. Make sure they know the appropriate glass thickness and bracing required. Ring around and ask each if they have experience building aquariums. Mine was built (in the 80's mind you) by Wayne Lucas Glass here in Blenheim but I am sure there would be someone in Nelson. Perhaps you should contact someone in the Tasman Aquarium Club for advice on the best place to go locally. I found this contact online but don't know if it is still correct; Robin Ashley Robin.ashley1951@gmail.com 03 544 3116
