Bought some jungle Val today & several leaves had this white/brownish stuff. It has a very chalky texture. My hygrophila (that I ordered with the val) also have this I got the plant online so it was out of water for a few days sorry if I put this post in the wrong spot, I’m kinda nervous since I didn’t notice it before it went into the aquarium (it didn’t look so prominent out of water)

So after 7weeks and several tear downs I’m finally ready to stock!!! Today African Dwarf Frogs 💕💕💕. It’s been quite a journey (see previous posts). Implementing the Walstead tank method has definitely been a game changer. Today I added 3 ADFs and while initially shy I think they’ll be very happy. Will keep a close eye on ammonia this week because ADFs tend to have a high bio mass and cause ammonia spikes. Plus the addition of bloodworms as food Monday Wednesday and Friday. Luckily the ADFs... Stocking 20g planted tank
Hi all, I just purchased a 10 gal tank and a fluval AC20 filter. I have a hygger led light already. Just deciding as to substrate. Do I spend a bit more (double) and use ADA amazonia or fluval stratum? I installed the AC20 on my 40 gal to allow some bacteria to seed it. It will run until the tank is filled. I have approx 12-15 lbs of the Pine bark stone and am thinking a structure at one end and the rest open. Will use some hygro wisteria and other bushy fast growing plants at first... New 10 gallon
Hello all, I see that it has been almost a decade since I last posted........ I wanted to post this thread to detail the HARDWARE I am using and offer my thoughts on these products. Just my opinion and have only been using them for a week I realized fairly quickly that some names/brands/etc I was used to using were no longer available. So, I tried to do try some new things Tank - Marineland 40 gal breeder. Purchased at Petsmart for a good price (150). Old fashioned black rim and... Return to the hobby - 40gal breeder
Hi all, So, I am going to resign my lease for at least another year, so I am going to purchase a 20 gal LONG type tank to fit on the 75 gal stand on the bottom. I am going to check out the Tidal HOB filters as I like the skimmer portion of it and it seems it will hold more bio-media. And the flow is adjustable as well iirc. I have enough of the bio-substrate to cover the bottom I think enough to plant a stem or 2 if I wanted. But am thinking just ferns and different types of anubias... New 20 gal long
Hi all, So, I talked myself into a third and final tank. A 75 gal that was 50% off. That pays for the stand I think a low-light non c02 tank. Lots of ferns/anubias and the like. Most likely a community tank in terms of fish. May get some festivums as I think they are really cool and have never had them. Marineland 75 gal 48x18x21(LXWXH) Same model stand as the other 2 tanks. I like these stands. Ez to assemble and they look fine. I dont really like closed door cabinets. Another hygger... New 75 gal
It’s not really green (more white or a light green?) or fluffy/hair looking but when I try to look it up, search results keep showing me hair algae I’m not too bothered by it but if it’ll become a problem someone let me know it’s on most my plants, but most prominent on my guppy grass & rotala im not active on this site so if this is in the wrong section pls lmk & im sorry
So looking at my tank and thinking about rearranging my swords I’m wondering about water movement. I have a filter and I leave the water level a little low to help oxygenate the water and create some movement. Watching what’s going on though none of the plants seem to react as they would if there was consistent water movement. Does this matter and would putting a large leafy plant under the out flow help increase water movement in the tank? Going to test and see [ATTACH... Water movement
My living room freshwater tank developed a red spot on the front glass a couple years ago that at first appeared to be red permanent marker on outside of glass. It has grown to the size of a loonie over the last 6 months, and a new one same size appeared as a surprise on tank side. These spots will not come off with a glass scraper. Recent water changes have been a higher PH than usual (on purpose) I think its 7.2 - 7.5 range. Should I be concerned? How can I remove it?
I think we usually think of them as potential prey for aggressive fish, especially ones larger than they. But I've recently found out the hard way that the shoe can easily be on the other foot once amano shrimp reach the size of small cory catfish. My tanks have been completely cleaned of hair algae but nearly two years into their introduction, the amanos have turned their attention to any live food small enough for them to grab and that includes month old angelfish fry. I thought I'd... Amano Shrimp Danger to Fry

After more than a year since the 210 gallon tank failed, and considering my options alternative to the high-light high-tech methodology in an effort to simplify my life, I am coming back with a standard 75 for the main display tank. The failure of the 210 was due to deformation of the support. That stand was the Aqueon purchased with the tank. I see now where its weaknesses were and I really should not have trusted it. I am beginning construction of a truly stout DIY stand. There are a lot... 75 GALLON LOW-TECH
