Last week I went to the scrap yard and while I was there my MJ died, not thinking too much about it, jumped back in the truck and all she did was crank over. I’d had this issue before and wiggled the wires on the coil but nothing. I pushed the coil wire that runs to the distributor cap on, still nothing, I pushed it on the coil as far as I could and it started up! Got it home and notice the thin coat of electrical grease was making the wire slide down the tapered neck losing contact. I crimped the metal clip inside the coil wire but that didn’t work for very long so I cleaned the grease off the coil and coil wire measured to make sure the metal clip was on the metal part of the coil and put a small hose clamp to keep it in place. It runs and idles much better and hopefully will not have that issue again. Hope this helps someone else out!!

I resisted making a build thread until I could come up with a name. Since the Comanche are a southwestern icon, Jeeps are an American icon, and mine is a Pioneer model, I had to think of something which would fit. And considering the rather rough condition my MJ was when I got it (drove it from Jackson, MI to Fort Wayne, IN on two bad wheel cylinders, shot shocks, and poor braking), I decided to name it "Calamity Jane". I will post pictures soon, but right now I'm deeply involved with replacing floor pans, rockers, etc. I've done a lot to it, as well. My first "restoration" project, not sure if it could be called that yet.
My 1990 valve cover oil fill cap always seeps oil even with the new rubber gasket. I was curious to know what the difference is with a 1991 and up version as it has the oil cap that would prevent this. Do the mounting bolts match? This is a valve cover from a 1991 in the pic.
Does anyone know where I can get these? They are the plastic inserts that go into the header that secure the grille screws. They are about 1/4" square. I also need the push pin version for the seat base trim. Since I just remembered, I also need the two rubber bumpers that go on the left and right side inner fender that keeps the hood aligned when closed. Mine are missing Getting my truck ready for paint. Thanks!!
I'm currently doing a 95-96 Brake Booster and MC swap on my '87 Short Bed Auto, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on rerouting the shifter cable and the fuel line that goes over the wheel well. They're contacting the booster, and I'm worried about possible issues down the road from the fuel line getting a hole worn in it and spraying fuel all over everything (like the exhaust 0_0).
Hello all! I’ve often lurked in these threads just looking for advice but I’d figure I’d just ask this time, as me and my Dad can’t seem to figure it out easily. My 4.0 92 MJ has a wavering idle once warm. After about 15 to 20 minutes of idle and messing with the throttle, the idle will begin to idle up to what sounds like 3k and drop down sounding like it’s about to stall. I can stop the fluctuations in the idle by unplugging the IAC valve but it continues once it’s plugged back in. I’ve checked my fuel pressure as I replaced it with an aftermarket rail and regulator and it sits at ~30 PSI and doesn’t change with the idle ideations. I’ve replaced the IAC valve and the O2 sensor thinking they just “went bad” but I’ve had no change in the idle after warm up happened :/ I replaced the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the MAP sensor and my next theory is a bad MAP or a vacuum leak somewhere else. I have changed the intake manifold to the newer style and changed the Power steering pump to match, I’ve also replaced the throttle body to a machined aluminum and larger bore diameter. I’ve made other upgrades in other places like suspension but those are the only ones that feel relevant. The symptoms initially began going down the road at highway speeds, it began to buck and almost cut out so I coasted to a turn out and shut it off I’d appreciate any recommendations or suggestions as I miss being able to take my beloved truck more than down the road and back. I’m stationed in A
I have a cluster with tach from an 87 with a 4.0. Can it be swapped into and 86 with a 2.5?
Can someone tell me why my interior lights aren’t working, the headlights and taillights and radio lights work as well of the parking brake light I know you are supposed to turn the light knob but that isn’t working
My son pulled his oil pan to put in a new gasket, and maybe a new pan cause the drain plug location is a little messed up / bent, and he sent me the pic below. He said he doesn't really see where the chips in the pan came from. The car is running well just has an oil leak. Any thoughts on where these might have come from? I'm going to ask him to double check they are really metal with a magnet, cause just from the pic it looks like it could possibly be pieces of the old gasket to me, but all I have to go by is the pic. Any thoughts?
We’re due for the next great CC thread. This one could be it! Here’s how it works: post a picture of your Comanche with both the challenge item to find and a second picture with the next item to be found. For example, if the member before me posted a picture of their truck with a statue, then I would do the same… … and then I would make the next challenge. Such as, post a picture of your Comanche on front of a theater. So? Who’s next?! Start with posting a picture of your truck in front of a theater and then make a challenge for the next member to grab a picture of their Comanche with. The idea is to get your truck out! Please only post NEW pictures. Ready?… go!!
I bought the mud flap brackets from @boxyjeep . Mine are rusted beyond recognition. Does anyone know whether the originals were painted? I'm debating whether I should attempt to paint them or just use them as is. If they were painted, would they be painted the same color as the vehicle, or just plain black?
simplifying everything. if you would still like one of the old decals I can see if I have any remaining, but I've found these new stickers to be durable and they are way more colorful plus each is a tribute to a former CC member. I've got Cruiser54 and Hornbrod on hand with a couple more that I'm working on. $5 each. paypal is preferred via the CC account (ComancheClub@hotmail.com), but I can accept through other methods too. If you would like to donate more to help cover our monthly bill, that's cool too.
