The Massey

I figured out how to post pics to this forum finally, so I figured I'd begin a thread here. I did this once upon a time on the outreachoutdoors forum, and when photobucket went paid-only I lost a lot of content. I swore off doing something similar ever again, but since I can post from my computer without an intermediary, we'll give it another shot. Rather than going back in time over a decade, I think I'll just begin in the here and now. Unfortunately, I haven't been photo documenting much... Read more

Nut and Fruit Trees

Hey folks, archery season is just around the corner in my area, so getting ready for that! I also wanted to put the word out there that I just updated my inventory of trees and shrubs from my nursery www.folkrockfarm.com We have PLENTY of Chestnuts, Hazelnuts, Pawpaws, Nanking Cherry, and lesser amounts of American Persimmon, Hybrid Plums, Thornless Honey Locust, Thornless Blackberry, Raspberry and Black Raspberry and Black Walnut. Also a good amount of Comfrey root fragments. Good... Read more

"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

Hi folks - a bunch of you knew me as Kubota over on the QDMA site and may remember my land tour thread. I am going to try and get it going over here now... It all started off with my Aunt and Uncle buying the property in 1976. It is a rectangular 80 acres that runs S/N in a pretty much unbroken forest of around 3000 or so acres. The property has a county roan that splits 15 acres off the south end from the rest. The N neighbor has about 30 acres of land they cleared MANY years ago that they... Read more

Tough Equipment Day!

Yesterday, I started mowing my sunn hemp and buckwheat so it could desiccate a bit before spraying and planting early next month. After about 1/2 hour the Kioti overheated. I found that the fan belt was worn and slipping badly. After the tractor cooled down, I tightened it up and I got an hour or so of mowing before it heated up again. I did notice that the RM990 had a few issues. It wasn't cutting as cleanly as normal and it bound up once or twice and I had to back up to let it clear... Read more

Another drought year……..

………..had me planting a month later than I wanted to. Last year and this year were weather twins. Rainy summer and then cuts off about the end of July to mid August. I waited and waited for a hint of rain, only to be greeted with a burn ban. Finally, we got a good rain and I planted, no rain to speak of since and none in the forecast. There was enough moisture in the ground for germination but we need another one pretty quickly. Another thing is, last year we had lots of winds with an... Read more
