DIY Go Karts

Hey Everyone. I've read random stuff on here for years. There's great info on here for a lot of different aspects of fab and engineering. I recently received a free engine (pred 301), which I fear is going to end up costing me dearly. Starting with an ok deal on a Silver Fox roller I picked up last night. Place to post a quick item not worth starting a thread for. Could be anything from had a flat today to kid brought home straight "A's". My quickie is opening the back door a little while ago expecting a cat or possum eating cat food. Two BIG raccoons took off!!!! Gonna get cold here soon.

I invited a friend i haven't seen much in the past 15 years. I got to know him as our wives are good friends. Anyway I invited him to come karting with me and he brought one of his adult children with him as I have three karts now. This was the first time all three were used at once. I've got some "new" ideas, for another racer For this one, I'm thinkin' about maybe trying to design ...& fabricate a monocoque chassis, made outta fiberglass I've already been doin' some research (on monocoque chassis design & construction & also, working with fiberglass) ...& still gots lots & lots of research to doo But, first let's start with the wheels ...'cause I got some "new" ideas for them too * I made a video to help explain/illustrate ... Brand new. Never had gas or oil in it. Bought it then discovered that the mounting footprint was not the same as the 212 small block type engines. Comes with a key and battery wires. I've seen these on line from about $450 to as much as $950 (!). I'd like $325 for this one. Excuse my lousy photography. More pictures on request. I'm in San Marcos TX (about 1/2 way between San Antonio and Austin). Delivery, pick up, or shipping all considered depending on terms and details.

Finally got a garage setup and still working on it. Looking to build grandkids a kart, probably a mini monster truck. Older one maybe a buggy. All up in the air right now. Need to get few things build such as a welding table and bender. Have the stuff, need the time. Located in North Dakota where we enjoy the harsh winters and stay inside working on projects if not ice fishing.

So my GoKart project is done, well I thought it was at least. :-D I've put some work into getting the engine running again, replacing the axle, added hydraulic brakes, new sprocket, and a new Torque Converter. I was taking it out on a run yesterday and I wanted a shot of the TC in action, but to my surprise, it's not actually opening up when I'm running full throttle.
