Voltage drop. New service, buried, ACWU. 200A service, using 160A as the load. 112 metres of cable Voltage drop for a service feeder is max 5% So... K<=(VD*1000)/(I x L x f) Voltage drop delta of 5% on 160A is 160*.05= 8 I = 160 (load amps) L = 112 (length of cable) f = 2 (from the table in Appendix D) K<=(8000)/(160*112*2) K<=0.223 This tells me that I would need 350kcmil cable to do this without going parallel. Going parallel would suck a bit because we would need a wider trench and... Check my math...

I wired this New Home. A New Dryer was delivered and installed by Home Depot. Owner called to say the 2 pole, 30 amp GFCI breaker was tripping. I especially like the sheet metal screw on the neutral

I have a customer that has purchased a subdivided lot in BC. The lot is a pan shaped lot with the handle being about 20' wide. They need a new service and the houses will be about 500' from hydro's transformer. The driveway is not wide enough for Hydro's clearance's without easements from neighbouring properties. Hydro's transformer is across the main road. What is the most cost effective way to supply their 200A 120/240V service? I have thought about 2 transformers, I have come up with... New service

I came across an interesting situation today. Someone ran an 8-2 NM cable for a mini split that had a minimum circuit ampacity labeled as 42 amps at 230 volts... One of the connections burned up in a junction box. I'm guessing this was probably due to a loose termination at install that just got worse over time; they used "polaris taps". At any rate, I told the customer the undersized wire is probably not the cause, but I also told them that the wire is undersized and that I would not... NM cable and MCA

Recently I contracted with a local non profit to do minimum electric work. Mostly to add 5 smoke detectors, electric range circuit, 2 recessed lights and to change all circuit breakers to AFCI. I had to take out permits with an electric inspection. The GC was a bit upset with me because I was not finished, in my defense nobody called me. I met the non profit project manager there to schedule and I noticed a case of 12 Utilitech wafers, a cheap bathroom exhaust fan, and a... Am I a trouble maker?

Been approached by a neighbour who’s a GC to do a small TI in an office space and been asked to replace 16 of these hanging light fixtures with other fixture or would like approx 32 pot lights the wiring size for existing plate looks like 4” but problem is he said there’s one access hatch in stairs going down to loading dock didn’t notice any others. Says holes can be made and patched but won’t know how many. Was thinking to maybe install 6” so easier to fit my hand and fish from light to... Small commercial TI
