Skijumper Roglic Fan and Coffeeplanter who did it previously seem to have gone, so I'll start the thread. I have received word from the top brass that Vuelta al Táchira is to go ahead despite recent events, therefore as of Friday cycling is officially back . Rujano Jr will be there to fly the flag. Opening weekend starts on the 23rd with Classica Camp de Morvedre, Urko Berrade won it last year with a pretty impressive long range attack. The startlists for the Spanish races should be decent this year, with UAE, Movistar and Bahrain sending teams, as well as Quickstep and Jayco for an assortment of races. Mallorca after that. which is usually good but has been sullied by a dishonourable one day TTT for some reason, though as it's Evenepoel's first race in his new kit perhaps one of our fanatical Belge posters will want to make a separate thread. Valenciana in February for Landismo's debut of course, and we are all looking forward to seeing how poor Joao manages to stuff... Read more

Well there was no thread so I made one. This kid has a bright future ahead of him. https://www.procyclingstats.com/rider/tadej-pogacar Sealed the overall win at Tour de l'Avenir today by almost 1 and a half minutes, a dominant performance. And came 4th in Tour of Slovenia this year, but only beaten by Roglič, Uran and Mogorič. And in the final timetrial he was actually only second to Roglič. Great performance there as well. And of course he signed for UAE for 2 years starting next year. I hope it's the right team for him, they're no exactly renowned for building up young talent. He and Roglič could be making a killer team in Lotto Jumbo. 🙂

I feel like cycling is in the dark ages on this. Every one keeps saying 'this can't keep going on like this' but it always does. My sense is that one of the core issues is the riders are basically exploited labour - they're treated like pack fodder so that the show can keep going on. There's always going to be a certain amount of danger/risk, and I would not like to see the sport change too much/be watered down. But I'm really sick of riders dying or nearly dying or getting seriously injured so regularly. There's something seriously wrong when F1 is so much safer..... Penny for your thoughts.

There's just a fair bit of discussion happening in rider threads about the Worlds, and I thought one thread, all races, all riders might be useful until it gets closer? I can see the course specs, and after looking at it on paper, the climbs seem shorter than LBL, maybe more in line with Amstel, or maybe somewhere in between? A lot of the discussion I've seen is about guys like Del Toro, Seixas, Remco, and less about Wout or MVDP, but it seems like the course could really suit a guy like MVDP, no? I've had this thread in my mind for awhile now. I've just been waiting for his first successful race/stage. 3rd place in a stage in Algarve isn't exactly what you'd call a big success, but with a bad shoulder (he dislocated it at TDU) it's a very nice result and a sign of good things to come. This is a learning year for this young man. He is 26 but has the experience of a neo pro. Believe it or not, he bought his first bicycle in 2012. He is extremely talented and there's no doubt in my mind he can achieve some important results in the future. In a year or two I can see him fighting for a Giro podium. This year he is going to be a climbing domestic for Kruijswijk in the GIro. I compared him to Landa because he can be this year's climbing sensation although in my opinion he won't reach the climbing level of Landa but he can become a better allrounder. I can't wait to follow his improvement and his racing over the years. Discuss...
