My lower rad hose heater is dead. It's getting cold here, so I need to move on replacing the heater. I was never very impressed with the performance of the lower rad hose heater. Likely due to the thermostat being in the way. I'd leave it plugged in all night and there'd be minimal heat in the actual engine - just enough so that it would start at sub -30°C temperatures. My 's TDI has a circulating heater that works amazing on that engine. Heats the engine to normal operating... Read more
Hey guys! I just bought an ARB single compressor off amazon. Initially I was just going to run alligator clips from the battery, but after looking through some videos on youtube, it doesn't seem like it comes with the hardware in the box. I then decided I was going to mount it in the engine bay where ahc would be. The switch would be placed to the left of the steering wheel, next to the rear diff locker control. So my following questions arise about the mounting and wiring: Is there a... Read more
I’ve been cleaning it out with a small drill bit and it’s going in about 1-1.5”. Should there be vacuum at this port when running? I hooked a hand vacuum pump to it when shutdown and it holds vac., like it’s plugged.
Had a great day at the air show - most liked the 45 more than the aircraft.
Does anyone produce new door skins for my drivers door on my 78 FJ40?
Long one. Sorry. But I'd rather front-load it than get twenty replies telling me to check my caster. 1990 HDJ81. 4" lift, Delta 5L radius arms with 2.5* bushings stacked on top, 37x12.50R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Legend EXP on -38 offset beadlocks. Symptom, and I want to be precise because I think the wording matters. This is not the loose, floaty wander people usually describe. Mine feels sticky. Small steering inputs meet resistance, so when the tire drops into a rut or groove the road... Read more
Well now, I’ve ventured into building a 1/10 RCRun LC80 hardbody. I’ve just been focused on the body so far but plan to pickup a Vanquish VS-410 portal builders kit or maybe a second hand RTT VS-410 if a good one pops up on marketplace. I recently got back into the RC hobby for the first time since I was about 13. It was the scale crawlers and hardbody did it. Now my kids and our neighbor/their kids are into it too! I started with an FMS FCX24 Camel Trophy Discovery as a Father’s Day gift... Read more
Saw that an intro was appreciated so here we go. I’m currently getting a 92 80 series back to daily drivable. I got the truck very rust free out of Alabama. This is my second cruiser. Had a 40 many years ago. I grew up with a Toyota tech dad that was into T100s pretty hard so I have a love for those as well. Just getting back into cars/trucks after a long time punishing myself with old British motorcycles. I’m a machinist by trade live in the north of Indiana. ... Read more
This truck has been around Mississippi for about 20 years or so. The owner has a duck hunting supply company and has used it at outdoor shows and stuff. He barely unuses it and for sure never kept it in good shape. In 2022 he brought it to me after a local Jeep shop did some work and did not know about the carb idle circuit so to keep it at idle they bumped the base timing to 35* Almost roasted it. Anyway I got it. Pulled the original carb and sent it to JimC and put an eBay carb on... Read more
Just started the tear down my FJ40 project. Probably going to catch a ton of grief for this build since I am taking the designs I like of each year and incorporating into final product. Starting with a 1974 Columbian FST and a 1964 Donor (Mainly heavily altered frame, front bib and split hood), but using parts I like from all different eras of 40's. Kind of a Frankenstein but I think Johnny Cash would approve.
So for those who had done this swap… H55F + split case + tc mounted ebrake On an fj40 How bad is the short rear drive shaft? A lot say it pretty short… any pics? I have an about 3” +- lift and know height will make things worse How bad is it really Preliminary stage of possibly getting this setup… thinking out my trucks future Adding a pic because we like pics
