FIXED ---------------------------------- I'll leave this here for info or maybe someone stumbles upon the same problem. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING TO THE EEPROM, DESOLDER IT. (Be careful don't rip off the small capacitor right next to each eeprom) The following counts for the Legacy 3.0R specB 6MT 2005 EUDM and Legacy BL5 2.0 JDM Cluster: In the green marked spot is where the eeprom (93C56) sits which holds the gauge clusters data. (Config for miles/kilometers, fahrenheit/ celisius...) At the last 32 bytes the milage/kilometers are stored. km_to_subaru.cpp I found the "encryption" Suabru uses in some forum two years ago (don't remember where ) , this code can convert kilometers to Subarus both EU and JDM clusters we used. The rest of the cluster config content is unknown to me. This is the config we used for the EUDM cluster: (The red marked bytes are the new data to match the cars milage - 215.000km) The red spot is not the same on both gauges. In the JDM its just a copy of the green eeprom. In the EUDM it holds the data for the immobilizer. Im not 100% sure what data or where the key for the biu to recognize the cluster is stored, but I found the same 6 bytes repeated 3 times in there. The rest is 100% unknown to me (The 6 bytes are marked and replaced by me with 'IMOKEY' - in reallity there should be just a "random" 6 byte pattern With that said, the car starts and runs again and the cluster shows the "manipulated"/real milage of the car. ---------------------------------- Ori

After 21 years and 261K miles, I'm giving up the 2005 Legacy Wagon Ltd. this Saturday, moving on to a Toyota Crown Signia. What moved me off the dime is a short to my windshield wipers that required a new wiring harness ($2,850 installed). OEM parts for this vintage are disappearing or non-existent. Not sure if I could get aftermarket or used, but I'm done. I just couldn't drop any more money into it. Yeah, the Crown is an old people's car, but I'm old. The seats are also a little higher as to negate some of the arthritis pain getting in and out. It's also the most wagon-esque new car out there for people like me who can't afford a Benz or Volvo. Subaru was still somewhat of a niche enthusiasts brand when this forum started. Now, for better or worse, it's gone mainstream with a much broader market. Unfortunately, that market doesn't appreciate wagons. I saw maybe a half dozen 05-07 Legacy Ltd.s and GTs in metro Atlanta over these years, and none past 2015. If anything, I could feel some exclusivity in a world of SUVs and sedans. I just want to thank all of the members of this community who've been a great resource over these years (even to us N/Aers), helping me answer a lot of questions and tackling DIY projects. I don't think there's a better forum out there. All the best, and happy trails.
Smoke tested the system today. No issues near the canister or fuel filler neck. First pick is where I connected the smoke machine. I sure hope that's the correct spot or I wasted all that time. Then you can see the smoke. Where hose connects to what looks like a frame, the smoke is pouring out from behind it. What the hell is even behind it? No gas smell anywhere. No smoke under the rear seat. Car throws P0442 once in a blue moon. Appears to happen more often if I drive the car at steady highway speed for some reason. After fuelling up, every single time, on first startup it will die, then on second startup it will crank for a while then start and everything is fine until the next gas station trip.
hello all, ive got a 05 LGT, bone stock, 219k, have had it since 150k. Car usually runs great, and has been maintained well. In the last 20k I've replaced both 02's, complete exhaust (stock) plugs, air filter, and tbelt and water pump recently it kicked a p0171...did some poking around under the hood and found a disconnected vacuum line, sorted that out and cleared the code...still had a very rough idle the following day and it kicked another p0171...nothing obvious this time so I broke out the scanner to check fuel trims and this is where things get weird... once the car is at full temp and closed loop my fuel correction jumps to 25%...makes sense with a p0171 at idle. So I go to pop the hood and start spraying carb cleaner at stuff and see if anything changes before I really go nuts chasing stuff and as soon as I open the hood, the fuel correction value drops to 3-5% stays there the entire time the hood is opened...as soon as I latch the hood the car stumbles and fuel trims shoot back up to 25% I can't see any harness or anything else being pinched when I shut the hood and it really only seems to act up once it latches I'm going to do a fuel pressure test tomorrow and smoke the intake etc. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts as what else to check given the whole weird hood thing...I'm pretty well versed in p0171 chasing, just never seen something behave like this anyway, thanks for reading and thanks for any insight or thoughts you might have
Hi, I own a Subaru Legacy BP5 2.0i 101 kW ej202. Recently, I was driving uphill on the highway and noticed that I had to press the gas pedal harder to climb the hill. Since then, I’ve started to feel like the car isn’t driving the way it used to. It’s as if it’s lost a few kW/HP. On hills where the car used to accelerate, it now doesn’t accelerate at all, and on some steeper ones, it even starts to lose speed. When pulling away, I have to press the gas pedal harder; before, just pressing it a little was enough. Interestingly, this happens across the entire RPM range. So it doesn’t matter if I’m at 2,500 RPM or 4,000 RPM—the car just doesn’t have the power either way. I tried disconnecting the battery because I read somewhere that it might help, but it didn’t. Also, ever since I bought the car, I’ve occasionally gotten an error code when using cruise control: P0420, reduced catalytic converter efficiency. But I’ve driven nearly 20,000 km with that code, and the engine’s performance has been fine, so I don’t know if there’s any connection. I replaced the spark plugs 8,000 km ago. I’d appreciate any advice. Thank you!
Hey there! I'm in the market for a used legacy and I'm looking at these 2 at the moment. They both seem to have good maintenance records, with the only difference being that the 2014 has a minor accident but less miles. Would like any input on the difference between the two in reliability. https://www.subaruofenglewood.com/used/Subaru/2014-Subaru-Legacy-Englewood-NJ-c90069d6ac18044492d2761605a8ff78.htm https://www.acuraofwappingersfalls.com/auto/used-2015-subaru-legacy-25i-premium-wappingers-falls-ny/123972431/
Anyone have a grimmspeed splitter for a 2007 Legacy GT Limited they would be will to part with? We're waiting for Grimmspeed customer service to reply. Thanks.
Hello, I have an oil leak on the rear of my 2007 legacy 2.5i. I’m having trouble finding an oil leak. It seemed like it was at the filter but upon closer inspection it appears to be coming from a component on the back side of the passenger side head. I have attached a pic. Does anyone know what this is and if there is a gasket behind the component that could be causing a leak? Please ignore the cv grease that’s slung onto the head. It’s from a broken cv boot that I just replaced. thank you!!
I changed the rear subframe in my driveway. It was a lot of work, but it was basically very simple. Just a lot of nuts and bolts relatively easy to access. What surprised me was the ease of obtaining a new one from Subi Can, It arrived in less than two weeks brand new., $800Can. What I found was that cleaning and painting these things is a waste of time, because they rust out from the inside.
Hi! There already is a thread describing what seems to be this very issue from @bradyhall but that thread died 2022 without an answer. My car is experiencing some kind of weird power loss intermittently, usually when standing around idling all the electronics, dash, nav, AC etc just goes black for a second or so then reboots. Sometimes i can feel how the engine jerks from this as well. A few times the engine actually died, like yesterday it happened while driving and that's why I'm writing here, need to get this resolved asap. This started to happen maybe 2 months ago. The car is a wagon automatic H6 3.0. The battery and alternator was changed 13 months ago. Read somewhere that people don't like third party alternators but mine is of the brand AS-PL. I will check that the alternator is charging as it should today. Anyone who has any input? Also if there is another thread that solved this issue please point it out.
Recently after a long time finished putting a new engine in my 06 LGT The car sat for almost a year and a half. So the engine is great, all the mods seem to be working together just have to get some miles on it before it goes to get a tune. The problem I am having is the stock radio and ac/heater controls are completely blank like they have no power at all. The clock and hazard light switch works. I had the battery disconnected, no change. Check all the blade fuses with a power probe and found none to be bad. Checked to make sure ac compressor was plugged in. All of this worked prior to pulling the engine. I don't have any check engine light or codes. I will rescan it today. I know this is a common problem. I tried alot of what I foound online and had no luck at all. I am going to pull the unit tomorrow and start checking for power at the connector. I did install a Iwire hardwire kit for the fuel pump. That works fine. No other electrical was done besides plugging and unplugging connectors. Any Ideas? Thank you in advance
Pretty nice wagon FS on BaT…see here. Only a coupe of hours left. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2005-subaru-legacy-gt-32/
