Lachlan's 1972 Datsun 1200 Sedan

Words to live by Mike. Which brings me to some news: my Datsun chapter has come to a close. Last month, I sold the 1200 to an interstate buyer who was very keen on the orange sedan. He didn't mind that it had the auto - an objection from most buyers - and is planning to pull the tired A12 and pop in a SR20 drivetrain. While they're only original once, I get it. Modern powerplants are better in so many ways: fuel injection, electronic ignition, forced induction, cross-flow head, tight AFRs, sensors galore, data logging, etc. But it has to be said: it never let me down. It always started and got me home, even if it was sometimes unhappy. Having just finished tracing down an electrical issue on my more modern daily (does 1999 still count?), give me a carb and points any day. I'm happy with how far I took it and have sent it off on a new journey. I wish him all the best and am confident it went to the best home. As for me, I want to thank all who posted their thoughts in this thread. Without your help, I would still be staring at a basket case Datsun wondering why I'd bought it. Instead, I got to drive and enjoy it way longer than I'd planned to and achieved a goal I've had since a teenager: 'buy a classic car and restore it'. Sure, there were things left to do but I proved to myself I could do it. And importantly, to my wife. So, with poor self-control and money to burn I bought a second project car. That is, on top of the one I bought late last year. Can someone tell me when I

wheel lug studs for pl411 rear drum brakes OR conversion to disk brakes on rear of same car

Broken wheel lug studs on my pl411... happened and wheel decided to pass me on the way down the road. I am looking for lug studs for this sweet little thang, can't find them anywhere and have no idea size. m12 is far too large.. m10 is far to small. IDK of an m11. What are these things, anyway? If not, has anyone done a fabrication and install of disk brakes for the rear of this car? I'm thinking that Honda disks might well fit.. bolt circle is 4 lug 100mm as opposed to 113.x like original but easy to work with using wheels with two lug patterns/sizes. It looks like i could fabricate caliper mounts, install the disks and go merrily down the road. Thoughts my friends? This was my wife's first purchased car way back in 1972.. J13 four speed, completely redone inside except for the glove box bucket (haven't figured out how to make one yet... maybe fiberglass?) and haven't butchered with seatbelts yet. Still need window rubbers on the doors all around (4 door) handle retainers and trim.. 3 tiny spots of light rust and the ws wipers don't yet. Cherry red and needs a new radiator but the old doesn't leak so likely just recore. new to forum but ancient in years.

Destruction of America

Well it is, full of Indians taking baths in the lakes and Gay's. Not that anything is wrong with that. lol

Destruction of America

No I would not. I used it as an example by the way, I know its in Alaska as my company pulls crude from the north slope.

What other Nissan/Datsun engines can fit into my 1982 720 4x4?

Thanks, guys, for all this help. And I loved the side track to the crew cab - I'd never seen that one before. I am trying to figure out right now if I really need a new engine, or if the previous owner (who claimed he had just re-done the timing chain) was only a few teeth off. I may have to tear it down to figure it out, but that's all part of the adventure. Thanks everyone. I appreciate the ideas and advice.

Silky's 1971 2-Door

Did you massage the top of the outer wheelhouse when you were doing the metalwork? If not you can still do it when fitting the flairs. I'm still thinking of how I'm going to do this on my '69 4 door. Looks like your committed to your engine choice, it should have enough torque to move the 510 easily.
