Bought another plane for parts on line, what was shipped was not what I bidden on. What I spent was a little over two dollars+shipping which was real low, but have not ever seen this plane before or one like it. Lever cap says Prutton and the blade in a diamond shape symbol says DHP. Does anyone have a clue to the maker, or any history on the Co.?

This unit has a mid sized vortex built into it, and Jet claims that this eliminates the need for a separate “chip collector” such as a Dust Deputy, etc. I was hoping someone here owns one and could provide feedback on how well the vortex works and if it works well enough to eliminate the need for a separate cyclone.

I need 4 braces for our classroom. Looking for fully functional braces that do not need restoration, however, I am also not looking for collector items. I thought I'd brush up on mortise chopping, so I went at it with a scrap of pine 2x4 with horrible results. Switched to white oak, and things went better; cherry - better still; poplar, back to less crisp joints and more chip sticking. This got me thinking about ideal practice woods for honing hand skills. If you want someone to learn, say, hand mortising or dovetail cutting, what wood(s?) would you start them out with?

Well, SWAT Symposium 2026 is a wrap and it keeps getting better and better. The vendors, demonstrators and attendees were over the top, again. Every year the sponsor clubs that make up SWAT make table decoration for the Saturday night banquet and this years theme was boxes. The people sitting at the table is given a number and the holder of that number, when called, get to pick their choice of one of the table decorations.
