TG-7 or Olympus E-M10 IV?

Hey all! Currently have a GoPro Hero 10 that has been okay for capturing the moment. Looking to get into still underwater photography now and facing the classical dilemma of starting with entry level or jumping into something more heavy duty that'll likely last me my lifetime. Looking at TG-7 or E-M10 IV. Off the bat, looking at roughly a $900 USD difference (~$600 for TG-7, ~1.5k for E-M10 IV). So my question is, just how much more spectacular is that $900 getting me? I know the TG-7 is... Read more

Am I a Nerd for Practicing Diving in a Pool?

I came back to diving after 23 years of non diving. Im originally NAUI OW in 2001. Did a PADI comprehensive refresher in Jan of this year. Went diving in Aruba in March. First time in the ocean, first time with surge first time in OW in 20 years. I have been renting tanks and diving in my buddies pool to get more comfortable underwater. Am I a nerd?

Submersion - free, open-source dive log app (all platforms) - looking for dive computer testers

Hi everyone, I'm a diver who also happens to write software for a living. I've been working on a dive log application called Submersion for the past year and a half, and I think it's finally at the point where other people might actually want to use it. I'm posting because I want people to know about it, but also, I could really use help testing dive computer compatibility. The short version of why this exists is that I was deeply unimpressed with the dive log options out there. Subsurface... Read more

What If CCR Training Is Teaching Inherently Unsafe Diving?

I do not mean that our standards explicitly tell divers to do unsafe things or that rebreather diving is inherently unsafe. My hypothesis is more troubling: the persistent CCR accident problem may arise partly because the training system is built around an incomplete model of accident causation—one that tries primarily to prevent errors through knowledge, procedure, equipment and vigilance, while many fatal accidents develop through predictable human adaptation, procedural drift, degraded... I thought folks might be interested in this new information on the Poseidon Diving Logistics website. PDL is the exclusive distributor of Poseidon regulators and parts in the U.S. Their latest warranty has specific information regarding right to repair: "Periodic service by a certified Poseidon Service Technician as specified by the Poseidon product manual is recommended to maintain the US Limited Warranty and ensure optimal performance of your Poseidon product. Camera and Housing Storage?

Admins, I searched and didn’t find a thread covering this. Please move if there’s already a thread. I have OM gear, so am posting here—again move as you see fit. Ok, so my camera and housing gear is multiplying like rabbits. I’ve got gear in nearly every room in the house and need to get it organized and stored. I’ve seen a lot of useful discussion about travel storage options, but nothing on how folks store photo gear at home. What do folks use to keep gear safe, organized, and out of... Read more

Into the Abyss - My First Time Leading a Group

My local lake has an average depth of 30ft, there are a few places where it is 45ft. There is one area that is 75ft deep, not many people dive at that point because it's a long swim, it's deep, dark, cold and silty. I have been fortunate to have dove it so I knew what to expect. Some of the divers from the shop wanted to check it out so I offered to lead the way since I've been there before. There were 3 of us. When it came time to talk about the dive itself, I mentioned and described... Read more

Thornback Cowfish

Here is a nice little Thornback Cowfish from Komodo this morning. These guys are quite good chemists, they can synthesize Pahutoxin a potent nerve toxin that kills other fish. So keep cowfish out of your aquarium. The only fish known to be resistant are Pearl Fish that live in the butts of some sea cucumbers. In any case enjoy

Going to Cozumel? Read This First!

Adam Duffy, co-owner of Scuba Tony, is spearheading an effort to stop the extortion scheme by customs agents in the Cozumel airport. He is gathering evidence, statements, photographic proof, receipts of payments, credit card statements, anything you've got for proof of having to pay illegal import tax on your belongings. The link here is a form that he created that you can fill out with all the details of your interactions with the agents. He will upload these to a spreadsheet and forward... Read more
