My family haven't been fortunate to inherit any heirlooms, not even those falling to bits like those you see on The Repair Shop. So, now I have four little grandchildren, I thought I'd make them each a concert sized ukulele with their name on some where for their parents to give them when they think fit. I was talking to a friend ( who incidentally has an engineering degree) about erecting a workshop he has ordered. You need a square of Thales says I. Never heard of it says he Difficult to explain in a few words so we googled. The AI thingy on the top refers almost immediately to Steve’s u tube and most of the following references can be traced back to the same source. The purpose of this thread is to document the development of Wadkin's RB 9" surface planers. But first a little background: To the best of my knowledge, the first Wadkin and Co. 9" surface planer was the RC. It came in various widths: 9", 12", 16" and 22". I've not seen a 9" RC, but a few 12" or larger models have shown up on the internet over the past several years. I assume the 9" RC is simply a narrower version of the above. Want to make a small try square. Picked up this bit of brass sheet in the scrap bin of my local metal store for cheap. Its about 1.13 mm, i think that would be 18 gauge according to google? I have a dremel with cutoff wheels, a hack saw, and an angle geinder with cutoff wheels an other types of grinding wheels . Also have an assortment of files. I do have tin snips but mine tend to “curl” sheet metal as i cut. Best way to cut a parallel strip off this?
