My bathroom - the story so far!

Backstory is basically that I tried to resist having a new bathroom for as long as possible. Whats wrong with a properly installed council bathroom I tell ya! But, she that could be referred to as the 'key master' had saved up a significant amount. Going on about it all the time, I didn't want to be mean. I was happily laying the paving slabs ready to fix up and upside my lovely 10 year old shed. In the meantime I also continued to slowly renovate and repair my fence so the 'bathroom in my... Sash bar dimensions for historical windows

Hi I am doing some research to discover the dimensions of historical sash window bars. I thought perhaps there might be an old joiner about who has repaired original windows and knows. In particular, I wondered if there was a standard size for the glazing rebate. I have scoured all the old texts, Ellis, Hasluck etc and none of them really seem to say. The dimensions I’m looking for are A, B and C below. In general I know A+B+C. It’s given by the size of the moulding plane or... Read more

My world at 9pm tonight...

Dark, dismal, dreary. Out with the dog, who was pulling like something "not right". He came across a scent, and without warning, surged forward, growling at nothing. Nearly had me over.... We've a layby nearby, which we walk along. It's a well known spot for taxi drivers, Tesco and Sainsburys delivery drivers to relieve themselves. I've even seen one of 'em emerge from the bushes carrying a toilet roll... Nothing like being prepared. Tonight, a car pulls up, maybe 25 yards ahead. He must've... Read more

Amazon issue

I’ve been trying to order some bits of Amazon, they want to send me an OTP via WhatsApp, which I do not use, selecting the SMS option then tells me I’ve tried too many times today, even though that isn't the case, so not an option, is this a new method and I have to have whasit or is it me? This is one message I keep getting: Tried looking on line but no answers.

Router bits in spindle moulder

Iv got a SIP 01456 spindle moulder, and I had the intention of transferring all table router duty’s over to it. It’s much sturdier, has better extraction and a sliding table. Im not looking to open up a debate about this necessarily as I know there a lot to talk about re. Speeds that router cutters need to spin at and other issues involved with putting router cutters in spindle moulders. I am however, looking for advice from anyone who has decided to put router cutters into their spindle... Read more

Secret Santa 2026

Well guys and gals its that time of year again, it feels a little strange without Phil but lets do him proud. Shall we get started? Last year we had some confusion as to what secret santa is, basically its a gift giving game where you have no idea who sent you a gift, those who join are randomly entered into a list, first person gifts to the 2nd, the 2nd person gifts to the 3rd and so on until the last person gifts to the first to complete the circle, you will not recieve from the... What do you think about climate change?

A lot has changed since I first posted in a thread on this forum two decades ago. Back then it felt that climate denial was the dominant view. Now it feels that climate scepticism is more of a rear-guard action by fossil fuel interests.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

This is a bit of an experiment. Most forums I've been on have had a "Post pics of [something topical]" thread, but not this one. There's probably a good reason for that, but I'm going to stick my neck out anyway. The idea is, quite simply, to post a photo of the last thing you made. It can be something quite insignificant, a component of something bigger, or a completed project. It can be something that's not thread-worthy on its own, or it can be something that already has a 9 page WIP... Read more
