What Kind Of Algae Is This?

Hello there, I have a Fluval Edge 6 gallon which I cycled, and planted for 3 weeks before I added two Amano shrimp. I have recently upgraded the light from a miracle-grow light to a AI Prime Freshwater. I dose iron and phosphate every other day and approx 1 mL. Excel 5-6 drops per day. If you know what these are and how to better control them, please let me know!

Keeping CO2 from outgassing in a tank with Bean overflow and a Custom Aquarium sump

I was going to get a tank and sump filter from Custom Aquarium and really wanted to use their sump for all the advantages they offer. Unfortunately, with my old sump and non Herbie overflow I was constantly going back to the store to fill up my CO2 tank. I was thinking of trying a Custom Aquariums) seamless sump with their stealth overflow box. It looks like these overflows don't agitate the water too much. The sump looks like it can be sealed fairly tight being that it has glass lids (I... Read more

Planted Fishbowl - Walstad Method - 7 weeks.

Thought I´d show off this Bowl, its my third attempt at a walstad, wanted to create a bit of a landscape, even went on a hike to find the rocks for it. Plants are Eleocharis Pusilla mini, eleocharis acicularis, alternanthera reineckii mini and some java ferns, as for the stem plant in the middle i sadly forgot what it´s called, had it in another bowl. Hoping I can try my hand at a 14 gallon bowl next so i can keep fish in it for... Read more

Looking for interesting plants to grow in blackwater

I have a number of aquariums with blackwater (not so much dark water but extremely soft acidic water). I've found that some plants grow extremely well in this environments and others not so well even if they are native to soft acidic water they sometime need more minerals then my environment provides them. I'm mostly interested in the more exotic crypts but open to other plants if you have suggestions. I've found that some plants grow every easily such as this sequence in ec 20 water... Read more

The 12 stages of the aquatic aquascaper

Neil Frank's "Stages of the aquatic gardener" inspired me to think further as a scaping viewpoint. Differentiating from the plant _gardener_, the plant aquascaper has a much longer, and less frustrating path in development. "Gardening" involves the growing aspects of aquatic horticulture. This includes the physiology, ecology, pruning, aquarium maintenance and mastering the ability to use the "colors"... the plants themselves. I started off aquascaping with rock, next came coral and... Read more

Some questions/recommendations for 125G Walstad (stock numbers vs plant types)

Hi all, I have this roughly 500L or 125? G 150cm long, 75cm tall tank (tall 5 foot) I have pretty much dialed in many aspects of the science revolving the Walstad method, at least in Hybrid setups as I don't have stock in two of my experimental setups, and one has axolotls which provides skewed/atypical nutrients and needs to rely on artificial ferts too. This will be my first actual fish tank since the 90s early 00s. I've only been into this hobby since early 2024 not including my tank... Read more
