Hi, I am installing a shelving unit in a nook. The basic design is 1x3 poplar wood cleats on sides and back holding 3/4" plywood shelving and then a face frame. Question is, when I nail the plywood shelf to the cleats, should I drill first or no need? I can't really get the drill in against the wall close enough to drill strait down into the cleats but worried I could split the cleats if not drilling first. I figure either way, I should use 4p 1.5" or 1 3/4" nails for the plywood into the... To Drill Or Not To Drill

Just spins and water will not shutoff. It is definitely the stem/valve, not the handle. I can't see a way to uninstall the entire spigot. (See photos). Is this soldered in? If so, I'll need a plumber. Thanks.

Hi all, I'm approaching retirement, and I have this long-held interest that I've never looked into around learning how to do woodworking. I'm mostly thinking smallish stuff like cutting boards, etc. Not furniture or anything that. But I'm coming into this COLD. Like, I probably have ZERO tools of use in this area, and ZERO knowledge. (Well, I MIGHT have a chisel of some kind somewhere. But I probably don't know which end of it to hold. ) Any thoughts on how to get started, and sort of... New to woodworking question...

Hey everyone, I'm doing a DIY bathroom reno and trying to figure out where to run the exhaust vent. I really want to avoid cutting into the roof, so I'm routing it out the exterior wall instead. In the picture, you can see the bathroom window—I’m thinking about placing the vent right above it (marked with the blue tape). My main question: Is there any issue putting the vent right here? (Note: The other side of that wall opens directly into the attic space). Would love to get your thoughts... Bathroom Exhaust Vent Location

For those in hard water areas: scale in the kettle, furred-up shower heads, the works. Anyone had a softener installed long-term - did it live up to the promise? What's the real maintenance and salt cost per year? And has anyone actually noticed a difference in boiler or appliance lifespan?

Sorry if I'm being stupid: I want to help a friend remove a rust spot from below the water-line in a toilet. I'm attaching photos below of the toilet bowl and the cistern plumbing. I can't figure out how to empty the toilet bowl completely of water, so I can apply some presumably effective RustOleum rust stain remover that I got, and let it sit for a while to do its thing. I've tried flushing the darn toilet, having rigged the water level in the cistern to various heights and turned... Fully emptying a toilet for rust cleaning
