At a total loss. Mum was sectioned July 2025. She has vascular dementia & Alzheimer’s. She moved to an amazing care home in February this year. But, she continues to dissent to being in care. She remains under DOLs & the advocate has raised a Section 21a, so we’re heading to court of protection. My dad died this August, my sister August 2025. I have tried everything I have researched, been advised of to help mum settle. All to no avail. Feel like I’m drowning. Where do I go for support with... Read more

This will probably seem trivial, but one of the issues of dealing with the process of dementia is the damage it can cause to family relations. Memories are also reset as you ask yourself, were they always like that, or did I miss something. Since reading and taking comfort from this site, I appreciate others can say the same or have their own experiences. I have cared for both parents for a good while. Things worsened when my father who was able to assist care for Mum with dementia was... Read more

How do those of you who are caring for a PWD cope if you get angry with them? I know that it’s not good for either myself or the person I care for, and I know that it is the desease that is affecting them, but it’s so tough sometimes (and it’s usually something trivial that sets me off). I really want to run away at the moment.

Hello, my mum was diagnosed with mixed dementia in 2023 (although she’d been steadily deteriorating since 2021) and I had to place her in a care home last year. I live an hour’s drive away, I work full time and don’t have a car so visiting her is difficult. The last few times I’ve visited have been very challenging……she can’t hold any form of conversation so it’s just me talking and I often don’t know what to talk about. I’m very introverted so that doesn’t help. There’s so much I’d like to... Read more

My mum has dementia and for a while now she has been showing hoarding tendancies. My dad would like declutter and downsize house but i think he is a bit overwhelmed and also currently recovering from surgery. I am visiting and trying to make a start on the decluttering but my mum comes to see what i'm doing and gets distressed and confused making it nearly impossible. Has anyone got any advice or tactics they can share? At the moment i am only managing to secretly grab a few items at a time... Read more
