Oh yes but don't ask me I am retired! 6621-29 if I remember correctly
Thanks for this Roger, does your company supply these pullers?
Pretty tight to use leg type puller, the proper ones remove the possibility of bending or breaking sprocket teeth and are not expensive. Yes it is possible to remove the mag without removing pump and driving sprocket.
Apologies to Simon Gardiner to whom I spoke yesterday, I didn't listen very well Simon so- I need to remove the mag on the Wng, the book says remove the oil pump and both sprockets but do I really need to remove the engine sprocket, is it not possible once I have broken the taper to remove the mag sprocket alone and remove the mag through the rear?. I don't have a correct puller but have got a few pullers and if necessary can grind down a couple of legs to get behind the sprocket, any other suggestions welcome of course, and another, the book shows a bolt over the end nut there isn't one on this mag should there be? Kind regards R
Hello all, so today I had a look today at my rather improvised grease/copper experiment. The photo shows the pieces after taking them out and cleaning off the grease. There is a fairly obvious difference in appearance. Two of the samples have developed a much more grey/silvery tarnished surface, whereas the other two have retained much more of the original copper/orange colour. There is also some iridescent/brown discolouration on the copper-coloured pieces. I would not call any of this a proper ASTM result — far from it. I used plumbing copper rather than a certified copper strip, the surface preparation was not standardised, the oven temperature was not laboratory-controlled and I obviously do not have the ASTM colour comparison plaques. So this is really just a home experiment inspired by ASTM D4048 rather than an attempt to claim a formal classification. What I find interesting is that the test is really looking for tarnishing and chemical reaction at the copper surface, not necessarily spectacular visible “corrosion” or pitting. Reactive sulphur compounds can form copper sulphides, and that can first appear simply as a substantial change in colour. The manufacturer of the SIL GREASE L-EP 00 states copper corrosion "Class 1 max after 24 h at 100°C", so in principle I was expecting relatively little attack. For the moment I would describe the result as interesting, but not yet conclusive. At least the sailboat oven has now officially become part of the Ariel workshop equip
It is from C8302 and it does have matching numbers. The French bikes did not have a contract number and the engine numbers overlap with this contract but the French bikes were finished 17 days before C8302 started. The dates of contract C7372 overlapped with the French bikes but the engine numbers didn't. Civilian bikes were also still being built in this period, in fact up to 2nd December 1940. The next contract C8574 also overlapped C8302, albeit only by 2 days by date of build, not engine numbers. This continued throughout the war but was less muddled later on. It would be interesting to study the contracts by date to see how much they overlapped. A later contract was interrupted 11 times to build bikes for a navy contract and a RAF contract.
Regarding W/NG at Sajab auction in Sweden. Interesting numbers. It seem to be from the first contract to the MOD C8302. 2700. delivered 18/07/40 Frame Nr12432 Engine 1946 G-box xicpbl 94253.Some of these bikes for the French governement (153) Could it be matching numbers? Or near!
I ordered a front brake cable from JJ Cables. I am very impressed with the service and it is good value for money. Dave was extremely helpful. Dennis
Confirm meeting at the Copper Beech, Bilsthorpe at 7:00pm on Wednesday. Cheers: John
