I shoot older shotguns almost exclusively, I just like the nostalgia. My main pheasant gun is a 1957 Double Automatic with a Cutts compensator. There are vintage shoots at some gun ranges, the cutoff seems to commonly be 1964. I enter the auto, pump, double and single barrel events. Don't hunt with people who are cheap. Don't hunt with people who are not willing to spend money. Dew hunt with people who are good at talking to Farmers. Driving a 1970s pickup, will get you permission.

I might try and get out Wednesday morning but no way am I hunting evenings. We are predicted for highs above 100 for the next 10 days. Hottest summer that I can ever recall here in Kansas.

These grouse hunters that hunt Montana, need to be careful about rattlesnakes. Places where there are grouse, can also hold snakes, so be vigilant.

I realize this is a pheasant forum but it seems like there are posts for other upland birds so here is one on ruff grouse in Wyoming. I have hunted NW Wyoming for Ruff Grouse about 25 years now. There is really some outsanding grouse hunting in Wyoming. I have hunted them from near the Pinedale area up into the Snake River Canyon to inbetween Grand Teton and Yellowstone Natl parks. Just drove from Duluth to my hunting area…gas is around $4…did see some higher, saw some around $3.70. My prediction is a $4 handle will cause a decline in NR hunter #’s in many states. Not us addicts, but those on the fringe…it doesn’t really change things, $5 gas, a double from last fall, means another $100-150/trip, assuming 1000 miles of driving…but the ubiquitous gas price signs remind drivers constantly of what’s going on, and it may be like Chinese water torture for some…and it’s a...
