Vado SL 4.0 12-Speed Conversion

When I "traded" my '22 Vado SL 5.0 for a NOS '24 Vado SL 4.0 step-thru, I managed to modify it to match most of the features I lost in going from 5.0 to 4.0. I installed a Mastermind TCU and a Redshift ShockStop stem compensated for losing the FutureShock, but the remaining difference in the drivetrains has come to bother me. Looking into it, I can easily manage the shifter, derailleur and cassette changeover to SRAM GX or NX 12-speed components, but I'm not sure what the options are for the... Read more

Cracked Allant rear rim

So I took my Allant 7 down for maintenance today - new chainring, chain and cassette. Cleaned up the rear wheel to put the new cassette on and found a cracked rim. While it gets good care and feeding, I don't spit shine it unless I'm replacing or inspecting something & this almost got out of hand. Every other spoke hole is cracked. That could have been catastrophic. I don't go hard on the motor either. Most of the ~6500 miles on this rim are human power. I'd hate to see what it looked... Read more

Entered My First Mountain Bike Race............with the Frey Beast

Following on from my recent first gravel bike race post, my same friend mentioned he was participating a mountain bike race for the second year in a row. This time on his Amflow Pro whereas previously he rode an analogue Specialized. Again the courses which varied in distance - 100km, 70km, 40km and 20km. For some reason e-bikes were restricted to only entering the 40km and 20km distances. My friend and I entered in the 40km race (which was technically 42.7km) with 618 metres of elevation... SRAM NX 11-spd derailleur on SL 4.0

Does the 11-speed NX derailleur that came on a 2024 Vado SL have a lever or button or whatever that locks it into the extended position? I didn't see anything but at the time I was trying to fix something in an inconvenient place on a hot day and wasn't in a position to take a closer look.

Decisions,Decisions,Decisions need help in moving up to new ebike

I’m currently riding a Aventon Level and I’m getting ready to buy a new bike that will probably be the last one for me. I’m 6’ tall and weight around 210 I’m considered to be athletic by my peers but some of them can just about walk. I’m in my 70’s now and there are time when getting on my bike becomes more of an effort than it previously was. I’m still able to ride the bike it’s just that on some days when I’m not 100% I have to think about it it’s no longer automatic. The bike I’ve... Read more

Spoke tension adjustment...

As a geezer with too much curiosity and time, I watched a video on Spoke Tension. Hmmmmm... I put this rear trike wheel in my lap and did a round-and-round ..top/bottom One spoke was -4 under the general 3-32 kg range and one was 4> over. They're all balanced now! My next project is to see if I can get a bit of wobble out of my RR wheel. There's a fellow in FL who did a nice YouTube demonstration on how to do it easily.. I likely will make it harder, but press on... Jim/Salsbury MD

Wahoo ELEMNT Ace (on Specialized E-Bikes)

As I said under another thread, the new Wahoo ELEMNT Roam v3 turned out to be a lemon for me, and I returned it to the seller. However, I wanted to understand what the flagship (e-)bike GPS computer of Wahoo Fitness could be like. My decision was 'If it is a lemon, too, I won't just keep it'. Mounting on different e-bikes The first nice surprise was the ACE installed on my existing Redshift ShockStop Computer Mount (Wahoo) on my Vado SL. ELEMNT ACE is a huge device, and it... Read more

stompandgo's Pinarello Nytro E5 Allroad build thread

My replies were copied from the original thread here. Pinarello e-bikes are called Nytro. Currently, they all use the TQ HPR50 mid drive unit. They offer this line for road and gravel, plus they have a single urban flat bar bike called the E5 Allroad that's based on the Grevil E5 frame. Pinarello has decided to cease distribution of this bike in the US, so they are on closeout. I work for a Pinarello dealer, so I was able to create a package deal, directly with the Pinarello rep, that... Read more

Commuter Bike Setup

Hello all! I got my Velotric Discover 3 that I plan to be using as a commuter to work, but am wondering what the best setup would be for transporting my stuff to and from work. I'll be locking my bike outside the office with 2 different Kryptonite locks, but will also have a backpack with my laptop and other stuff. I'm curious what everyone else does to haul everything as I don't think just the backpack on my back will be comfortable. Things I've considered: A basket on the rear rack... Read more

Bafang CanBus Minimalist Display

So I've never been a fan of huge screens on bikes. I like a simple battery indicator and the necessary 3 buttons in the smallest package available. I am particularly fond of simple LED units like the UART DZ39 pictured below. Unfortunately my latest bike build up has a Bafang Canbus system and it seems they are fairly limited on compatible displays. I do know about the E08 unit, and while simple, its not small or well made. I am considering getting one to gut and rehouse but that's a heap of... Read more

New mirrors day

Installed new pair of mirrors today. I was using popular Hafny E13 mirrors and they were fine - big enough, easy to mount and worked fine. However the main problem is durability - due to vibrations the mounting connector on the mirror itself just breaks after some time, like this: Once this happens first time I suspected some manufacturing defect and just bought new one. However less than in a year the 2nd one broke same way. So, this looks like not... Read more

Bosch Hub Line

When can we expect e-bikes with the new Bosch rear hub motor to appear? Seems like a good move for them to integrate it with their Smart System including the LED Controller or Intuvia 200 display and the Ebike Flow app. Journalist Honza Galla described the specs including 45nm torque, 2.3kg/5.1lb weight, a bottom bracket cadence sensor, and ability to be powered by various batteries including the PowerTube 360 or a single PowerMore 250 range extender pack (or two), and ability to...
