I "copy it myself" using a custom script (with make install). This is a quote except for the note at the end. Code: # From kernel.org: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/kbuild/kbuild.html# INSTALLKERNEL## Install script called when using "make install". The default name is# "installkernel".## The script will be called with the following arguments:# $1 - kernel version# $2 - kernel image file# $3 - kernel map file# $4 - default install path (use root directory if blank)## NOTE: env var INSTALLKERNEL changes the script location / name.

tckosvic, another way to install the kernel is to copy it yourself instead of using a "make install" (I do that too). See here: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... el_package -> https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... eat_Sheets
Yes, but here is more that depend on installkernel package, see via Code: equery d installkernel -a If you want installkernel, then best adding it to the @world set –> Code: emerge -av --noreplace sys-kernel/installkernel so depclean don't uninstall.
I wonder how it got deleted. It didn't just reinstall, emerge called it new. Did you previously use sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel(-bin)? installkernel is pulled in as a depend, so if you removed that package then run depclean portage would assume you no longer need installkernel any more.
good news bstaletic, the precompiled kernel worked. After gcc looping around fortran and emerge hanging instead of fetching perl libs, (had to remove hidden lockfiles in /var/tmp/portage/)... This is the 4th machine i install gentoo, and the most clumsy and embarrasing. I overestimated myself on configuring the kernel and learned the hard way to backup a working config. And the journey goes on...!
I'm glad to hear you were able to get the microphone working. I haven't actually had a need for it. Truthfully I wish Framework would have released a model without a built-in webcam. At least they have the hardware kill switches for it.
I would imagine the problem is actually related to this issue on their GitHub page: https://github.com/FrameworkComputer/So ... issues/166 Thanks for that. In my searches, I hadn't come across that one. But right now I'm trying to figure out how to go back to ground zero on sound.. right now pactl gets a connection refused by user (not root - although it is the same there). I have wondered if XDG_RUNTIME_DIR was unset so googled around on that and ended up inserting this in my user .bashrc : Code: # Set a temporary directory for XDG_RUNTIME_DIRexport XDG_RUNTIME_DIR="/tmp/runtime-${USER}"mkdir -m 0700 -p "${XDG_RUNTIME_DIR}" Trying to figure why I can't connect to pipewire or wireplumber, both which appear to be running.

Hey all Heading to Austin in three weeks for a tech conference, so I'm getting the laptop ready. Nothing special, just the usual stuff before a work trip. I'm going back over my kernel config to make sure all the modules I need for my Huawei USB modem are there. It's my backup connection, and `usb_wwan` needs to be built properly or the modem just doesn't respond after boot. I also checked the network USE flags again, mainly for firmware and USB serial support. Last time I spent hours figuring out that I was missing `CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_OPTION`, so I'd rather check it now than find out when I'm already there. I've been using this modem as a backup whenever conference Wi-Fi goes sideways, so I'll test the tethering setup this weekend just to make sure everything still works. For the actual trip, I'm also looking at what's currently a good **eSIM for the USA**, mainly so I can have data as soon as I land without messing around with a physical SIM. If anyone has done the Nantes to Austin trip and had a decent backup setup for connectivity, I'd be interested to hear what worked for you.
I'd recommend going with gentoo-kernel-bin until your system is set up. Then you can mess with your kernel config at your own pace.
That's funny, you pointed out my own thread on having same problem a year ago. I totally forgot that thread. As far as I knew it was a new problem. I guess I need a vacation. Installing "installkernel" again solved the problem,. I'm on latest kernel now. emerge called "installkernel" a new install. I wonder how it got deleted. It didn't just reinstall, emerge called it new. thanks for showing me my own thread. tom kosvic
Just copied to the symlinked dir, a kernel config file from my previous attempts, same kernel version, and i go on from there. Let's see. I have had lots of failures with this laptop and started all over again, allmost
