Hi, I would like to understand the intended usage of the Force Delete feature in Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN. The documentation describes Force Delete as a mechanism that automatically removes backup files older than the configured number of days. Is this feature intended to be enabled continuously as part of normal operations for Oracle RMAN backups? If so, are there any known limitations, considerations, or best practices for long-term use? Additionally: 1. Are there any known performance impacts associated with keeping Force Delete enabled over time? 2. Are there any operational considerations when using Force Delete together with Oracle RMAN retention policies (for example, recovery window retention or KEEP UNTIL TIME)? 3. Is Force Delete primarily intended as a temporary housekeeping mechanism, or is continuous use considered a supported and recommended deployment model? Question about Force Delete retention calculation

Hi, According to the documentation, the Force Delete feature should be configured with a value that is at least one backup generation period longer than the retention period. I would like to confirm my understanding and the detailed calculation logic. Example: - Retention period: 93 days - Maximum backup generation interval: 31 days Based on the documentation, is it correct to assume that a Force Delete value of at least 124 days satisfies the requirement? In addition, I would like to understand how the age calculation is performed. For example, if Force Delete is configured to 124 days and a backup was created on January 1st at 06:00: 1. Is the age calculated using the exact timestamp, or only the calendar date? 2. Is a backup deleted when its age is: - greater than the configured number of days - greater than or equal to the configured number of days 3. Which timestamp is used for the calculation? - backup start time - backup completion time - another timestamp Could you please clarify the product behavior? Best Regards, Rin

Hi Tom, Many thanks for sharing these feature requests! This info is super useful. 1. Very high demand, but I cannot share an ETA. 2. I guess creating a policy per instance is not what you’re looking for? 3. We try to keep our UX more or less similar across multiple different workloads, but I will look into it in more detail. 4. Do you mean creating a full backup when it is not found in the repository file system? I don’t think it is technically possible to convert an already existing incremental backup into a full backup. 5. Could you please elaborate a bit more? What exactly is not straightforward from a security perspective? Thanks!

Hey @massimiliano.rizzi This is the sort of thing the Veeam-Healthcheck tool is designed to help with! https://github.com/VeeamHub/veeam-healt ... .1.224-dev It’s a community project for getting information from VBR to make things like sizing easier. It will pull out the source size of all workloads at a per job level, as well as show the change rate of a job and the average and max backup size for a job. I use it all the time for sizing activities. I’ve linked the preview build as it has a number of fixes and new features in it, which haven’t made it into the GA release yet (Because I’ve got a couple more features I want to add before the next release)

Hi Massimiliano Since you don't want to use Veeam One, I would try to retrieve backup session statistics (maybe with PowerShell) and do some calculation from there. I suggest to give Veeam One a try, especially if you have VMware or HyperV. Maybe your customer start seeing benefits of other Veeam One reports, which will allow you to provide more managed Services to them. I would like to elaborate more on this as it's not that we don't want to use Veeam One, it's more that some (lazy) IT admins that are not already using Veeam ONE may not like the idea of having to deploy a helper Veeam ONE server and connect their Veeam Backup & Replication server (although temporarily) for the sole purpose of extracting the required statistical data needed for the Veeam Calculator Object Storage/VDC Vault sizing. I personally love Veeam ONE and I consider it a more reliable and straightforward approach using a solid tool compared to retrieving the same backup session statistics using PowerShell and then do some calculation from there. At the same time, I fully agree that it is definitely worth giving Veeam One a try in order for us to have the opportunity to provide more managed services to the customers.
