Dear Community: I am facing a repower of my sailboat, a Vagabond Westwind 38. The 40 year old engine was Yanmar 3HM35F with Kanzaki KBW 10 transmission (2:14:1 ratio). The transmission is dead in forward and reverse. The first cylinder is not compressing properly and I was told I should not push the engine past 2500 rpm. I can try to find someone who is selling remanufactured (at least advertised as such) version of this engine and transmission for $8,000 to 10,000 dollars (optimistically)... I just bought a Fast Yachts 345 with no transmission. The seller was having issues with it and so he pulled it and sent it off to a fella named Alfred Holzer in Wisconsin. The seller hadn't given the green light to repair it, so it's just been sitting in this guys shop. I bought the boat, talked with Alfred ( sounds like an older fella) and he has no idea who the seller is or anything about the transmission. He apparently runs a repair shop of some sort and doesn't document stuff. The... Transmission Interchange (Kanzaki KBW10)

My rudders have always caught some grass. I have to go out through a narrow channel so it’s pretty much unavoidable. I didn’t mind it too much until I started racing and I’m picking up a ton more than I used to. I made some little fins to go forward of the rudder but they’re not effective. Any ideas?

I read The Unlikely Voyage of Jack de Crow years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I see the sequel Realms of Gold: The Remakable Return of Jack de Crow is coming out, but I also see a different sequel The Ongoing Odessy of Jack de Crow: From Romania to Venice in a Mirror Dinghy has also been published. From what I can tell from the marketing blurbs, they appear to cover the same time/voyage. Does anyone have any insight? I will have to order teh book(s), my... A.J. Mackinnon Jack de Crow books
