The company is using some of the fab’s production lines to make prototype AI5 chips for Tesla. It will use these early chips to verify the production process and check the yield before moving to mass production. Samsung aims to complete final mass production verification by the end of this year and start supplying chips next year. The company originally planned to begin full-scale operations at the Taylor fab around November. However, the facility has now moved to the prototype production stage as its advanced foundry lines in South Korea become increasingly busy. Tesla is the key customer behind this early production. MediaTek claims the chip delivers up to 17% higher single-core performance and 15% higher multi-core performance than the Dimensity 9500.
