Two Frenchmen Brawl With Staff Outside Phnom Penh Riverside's COMPAS Mexican Restaurant

Bit sad, seems they paid $100 & felt they got stiffed on the change? Bit busy to listen to the full extract, couldn't quite get the Cambodian side of the story, will have a listen later. Can't imagine why that ends up with a handbag fight & can only assume the locals didn't understand the French dude taking off his white shirt and waving it was a French traditional signal of surrender. Poor chap! Pity though, have to say Compas Toul Kork is pretty solid, one of my regulars for a cheeky delivery. I assume the one on riverside is equally decent, has @hanno got a review?

Cambodia's $210 Minimum Wage Beats Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos, Ministry Report Claims

I could survive on $210 in Cambodia. Just not for a full month. Or a full week. I guess I could manage 5 days if I had to. On my last trip to Cambodia before the pandemic I had a daily budget of USD 100, and that was not including the hotel and flights. So I guess that USD 210 would last me a full day + breakfast the following day.

Ask the Expats (Questions & Answers)
Does your wife respond to your child safety concerns with “but he’s done it before.”

I don’t think this is primarily related to raising kids. But more so a difference in cross cultural communication styles. People here often speak quickly justifying actions or decisions without having thought it through completely. Westerners are (more likely) to weigh up various outcomes/consequences before voicing an opinion, whereas locals here often don’t look at big picture, but confidently reply indicating they know what is going on. Consider the moto mechanic, your bike is broken down so you take it to them to fix. He changes the spark plug and charges you, but you realise that it is still broken, then he changes another part and charges you, but it’s still not working right. Finally he finds the real problem and addresses it, not because he has considered she whole big picture but because he has ruled out the other stuff. But at each stage he is definite that he has got it fixed. Understand each other better, realise how you think and how you and she thinks are not always the same. And compromise somewhere in the middle.

Bar Reviews

Danny K (St 172) Continuing my investigations down 172, I realise there are a lot more in the girly bar category than I thought on this road, some newer, some better known. You only really notice at night when they are lit up in neon, but fewer places are touted by yelling girls on plastic chairs as in the more popular streets for this sort of thing. Amongs many there is Play Pen, Boran Bar ('vibrant'), Chill bar, Moonlight Bar and the well-known Black Pearl - I already recommended in previous thread. I wanted to check out the relocated Danny K tonight (now last night) which in the past I and others have given unfavourable accounts, and only opened recently next door to Oasis. I was impressed with the layout and fresher appearance of the place. The older bar had been there at least 5 years and was failing to make a turnover and the better girls moving on. I have expressed this thought before - success and failure in these kind of bars (hostess) it seems to hinge on the quality and number of girls. So my first thoughts on going into Danny K was there was a nice range of beers, but where are the girls? and where is the promised pool table? I was directed to 'Through that door on the right'. That's better I thought, it's really a 3- unit bar and when I got in a look around there was a decent pool table in front of me: and a lot of pretty girls seated around tables. But then I had a double take; this place looks familiar - I'm back in Oasis bar! The two bars: Danny K and Oasis ha

Cambodia's $210 Minimum Wage Beats Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos, Ministry Report Claims

Not exactly good news, as there is no cotton growing or synthetic fabric manufactured in Cambodia and accordingly it requires imports which drives the price of the finished product even more up. If Cambodia can't wait up with any exclusive factor like quality, reliability or anything else, this higher wage is not exactly attracting manufacturers to build or extended their production in Cambodia...

Two Endangered Pangolins Released into Bokor National Park, Kampot

[CAMBODIA NEWS] Kampot deputy governor Keut Chhe said on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, that he had rescued two pangolins and released them into Preah Monivong Bokor National Park, and urged the public to help protect the country's wildlife. He gave no details on where the animals came from or the circumstances of the rescue, only that the release took place the same day. The park, known to most visitors simply as Bokor, was established in 1993 and covers roughly 1,500 square kilometres across Kampot, Kampong Speu and Preah Sihanouk provinces. The pangolin, or scaly anteater, is a solitary, nocturnal mammal. It spends the day curled up asleep in a burrow it digs itself, in a hollow tree or in a rock crevice, and some pangolins prefer to climb and sleep high in the branches. Adults live alone except during the mating season and the months a mother spends with her young. At night they emerge to feed on ants and termites, ripping open nests with their powerful front claws and gathering the insects with a long, sticky tongue. Pangolins have no teeth and grind their food in the stomach with the help of small stones they swallow. When threatened by a predator such as a tiger or wild dog, a pangolin rolls itself into a tight ball so its hard scales shield the soft underside from bites and claws. It can also release a foul-smelling secretion from glands near the tail to drive an attacker off. Females carry a single young for around three to five months, and twins are rare. The baby is

Foreigners just can’t seem to keep quiet about anything, and then we wonder why all the fun stuff disappears. Would you prefer to read reviews on convenience stores? In point of fact, I actually picked up a decent French baguette at Exchange Square today. Noticed all the dairy foods are coming in from Australia. pussy and food seem to get the most attention on this forum Food by far. Truffles alone get more attention than nightlife. Almost everybody eats everyday and multiple times during the day. The other category is of particular interest to fewer people so it is natural that food gets more attention. Don't forget that you can also eat pussy.

Cambodia's $210 Minimum Wage Beats Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos, Ministry Report Claims

[CAMBODIA NEWS] Cambodia's garment, footwear and travel goods workers are guaranteed more each month than their counterparts in Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Laos, according to a new report from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training . The ministry puts total minimum monthly pay for the sector at about $229.50 in 2026. That is the $210 statutory minimum wage plus roughly $19.50 in mandatory allowances, before overtime and other benefits. By the ministry's figures, the equivalent floor is $93 in Sri Lanka, $97 in Myanmar, $102 in Bangladesh, $114 in Laos, $143 in Pakistan and about $192 in India. Vietnam, which sets its rate by region, ranges from $147 to $211. Ministry spokesman Sun Mesa said the government had focused on improving workers' living standards while balancing their interests against what employers can afford and the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector. He added that workers also receive healthcare, work injury cover and pensions through the National Social Security Fund , which helps cut household costs and shore up income security. The $210 rate took effect on 1 January, a $2 increase on 2025 that came after 23 rounds of negotiation. The wage was $200 in 2023, $204 in 2024 and $208 last year. Unions had asked for $232 for 2026. The report comes as talks on the 2027 rate get under way. The National Council on Minimum Wage held its first meeting on 1 September, with further tripartite sessions scheduled for 14, 18, 2
