My fizzy goats!

We made the 7.5 hr round trip and have our little doelings home! We weighed them and gave them some probiotics then they promptly began to avoid us. We were expecting this. I’ve been just sitting in the barn with them as they figure out their new place. They are soooo fun to watch and now come near me. They don’t want me touch them, but if I leave the barn, the little black and white one calls for me. I’ve never had a goat call for me. So many firsts! Anyway, I’m just excited to finally... Time to confess.

I just really, really, really, really, REALLY! don't want to tell this story. On September 2 (the one year anniversary of us seeing this place for the first time) I was awakened at 2AM by ducklings frantically cheeping. I looked out the bathroom window and 3 of them were in their pond. They have rocks to get in and out but were not getting out. I headed down the stairs and out the door. When I got to their kennel 2 of them had drowned. It was the coldest night we've had. I have no idea why... Time to confess.

New at chicken care

We invested in a steel chicken cage---run for our 3 chickens. Our previous cage from Amazon become a kite due to the winds! Could someone give me some tips on how to hang up chicken feed and water dispensers off the ground? Is there any specific material like wood chips to put down in the chicken run? We put Fine straw in the hatchery...I think that's what it's called..lol. I really appreciate the info! Hope all is well with everyone!

Nyx not doing well

So we moved Saturday morning and Echo did great. Nyx did not. In the trailer ride - about 31 miles - no physical issues - cuts, wounds or anything. But when Nyx got off she was open-mouth breathing, panting heavily, kicking at sides, restless, didn't want to eat, just stressed. So I thought maybe it was bloat or GI issue. Of course it was a holiday weekend. After calling every vet I could find, my old neighbor that has goats and trailered them here, one friend off here (I hope you are... Nyx not doing well

Stiff gait, arched neck

Good morning. Our 1.5 year old doe, Towhee, is a little off this morning. She’s walking with a stiff gait and her neck arched slightly to the right. I know this can be indicative of a number of things… polio, tetanus, white muscle disease, etc. she hasn’t had any wounds lately so tetanus doesn’t seem likely. She is still eating and chewing cud. she came on a walk with the other goats this morning and was able to keep up and even tried to bully a younger doe a bit, so she’s still pretty... Stiff gait, arched neck

New but not quite new!

Hello fellow goat lovers! We are HomesteadHub App, also known as Karen and Junko. We've posted on here before about our app, then life on the homestead got extremely busy as it often can during spring...but we're back! As for our goats? Karen is just starting out her goat journey and has 2 Boer x Nubian crosses who gave her the goat bug...and now she's itching for more. It'll be fun to see how she continues to expand her herd. She's up in Minnesota. Meanwhile, Junko has a mixed herd... New but not quite new!
