Ginger Molloy

Ginger passed away yesterday at the age of 88. He was one of the old school continental circus guys living in a caravan following the race meetings. His best result was second in the 1970 World 500 Champs on a Kawasaki behind Agostini . Was also 3rd in the 1968 125 World Champs on a Bultaco. He raced for many years in the NZ Classic Racing Register series and would line up with the rest of us to get his gear checked. A good bloke.

Your advice on where to find a good used front hub for my 1973 Commando with disc brake

I have checked my front hub and it is not running true on the right (disc) side. It has a wobble Looking at it, I suspect this is how it came machined from the factory as the right bearing outer race is tight. Whomever laced the wheel rim last, compensated for this. I am looking for a good used one but it seems my only option is over $500 for a new one from the UK. Might anyone know of sources in North America? In the parts book, the part number is 06-2867 but that seems to be the... Read more

Mk 2 steering lock

My top yoke is a Mk2, the steering lock hole is 19.9mm dia counterbored 22.6 mm x 8.3mm deep at the top. I bought a supposed Norton Mk2 steering lock, the body is 18.5mm , 18.2mm at the bottom with a 20.1mm dia rim, It looks like the lock should be retained bi a thin pin tangentially through the bottom of the hole. I could throw it into the hole in the yoke from the other side of the kitchen. Is the lock just sh1t or has my yoke been modded at some point.

Subject: 850 Mk3 – Ignition Timing degree Scale recociliation.

Hello Houston we have a problem, I'm setting up electronic ignition on a Mk3 and have run into an alignment discrepancy with my primary cover timing scale. I meticulously measured and have verified the following details: True TDC Verification: I used the positive piston stop method (rotating the engine forward anti-clockwise, then reversing clockwise to the stop) to split the difference and establish absolute True 0° TDC at an arbitrary point on the rotor. Rotor Dimensions... Read more

Starting on the Norton

Well I started the clean up yesterday going to put a hold on the train layout for a few days, cleaned the area under the open awning beside the snooker table, moved the BBQ table out from under there to outside, put away all the mess and cleaned the concrete, then pulled the lift table out from under the snooker table ready for the Norton to be put up on it. Today got to pull the Norton out of the shed but before I put it up on the lift table I going to drain the sump and drain the fuel... Read more
