When the engine is at operating temperature it wants to idle at 12 to 13 grand and sometimes up to 15. Seems to me others on here get their cars to idle a 800 rpm? I do have a mild street cam so that might account for some of the difference in idle speed. I tested the throttle shafts with a drop of oil to see if they were worn but it did not seem to change anything? If I kick down the pedal at idle at a stop light the rpm will often drop down to 10 grand and below and it feels like it is... Read more

Hi All, The plan is to pull the transmission next weekend., Interior is stripped and everything is ready to go - next step is to remove the (16) nut/bolts in the bell housing. But, before I do, my question has to do with supporting the engine. I plan on using a large scissors jack with 2x4s under the sump - see photos. I have it positioned just before the oil drain plug. The reason I plan to support from here is b/c the sump has a raised profile for the drain plug. Plus, if I place it... Read more

I'm having an issue with a vacuum leak at the intake manifold and I came across this statement: "Aftermarket headers have flanges that are thinner than the factory cast iron intake manifold leaving the thicker intake manifold loose causing a vacuum leak. The fix is to shim the clamping bridges so that both the intake manifold and the aftermarket header present a perfectly level surface for the clamping bridges" Has anyone here done this and have any further advice on doing this? It showed up in an urelated Youtube video. I have never seen a wagon rear end like that. Google lens isn't helping me either. any ideas?

Well, I’m totally confused! During a total engine, clutch and transmission rehab, I decided to convert to a 4A / 6 style diaphragm clutch on my 65 4. While doing research, I found that the later cars use a self adjusting clutch. This is something I’ve never dealt with before, or understood. What would cause the speedometer to return to 5 mph rather than zero?

Hello, been gone from this forum for a while. I have a '70 B, split rear bumper with factory overdrive that I bought almost 21 years ago. It was wrecked at the time, but I managed to get new doors, windscreen, bonnet, LF wing and some other bits from Tony Barnhill before he passed. As life goes, I never had time to work on it until I retired in '23. Hi all, I finally got a chance to start digging into the GT6 I bought back in July. It has had a very high, floaty idle since I bought it (1100-1400 RPM) that I believe I’ve isolated (at least in part) to a significant vacuum leak at the base of the rear carburetor.
