Playing NAS video files on samsung TV

laigool: hello i saved a lot of video files in NAS (mycloudex2 ultra), i recently bought a samsung smart tv, what is the best way of playing video directly from the NAS ? i know there are apps like PLEX and Twonky which i have both installed in the mycloud but still they couldnt access the video files from NAS. Am i missing some steps? I previously using apple TV streaming device (access from Computer app) but with the samsung smart tv i think i can access it directly without using the apple tv device Yes, you should be able to access it directly. Make sure DLNA/media sharing is enabled on the My Cloud and your TV and NAS are on the same network . Then check the TV’s media/source app for the NAS.

Thank you, Bennor!!! As soon as I get home tomorrow evening, I will try the steps thst you specify below. I will also download the Comcast Xfinity app that supposedly can tell me what devices (IP addresses) are connected to the Comcast Infinity modem/router. I’ll let you know of any results - your help is very much appreciated. For awhile, I thought I bought an expensive paperweight!

My Book Dead. WD Support jerking me around

I bought an 8 TB Mybook from Walmart on March 16. Used it once or twice. I only use it as a backup so it is nearly never used. Never play music or open files from it. The other day, it was dead. No power. I tried the power supply from the MyBook I just replaced (that lasted 8 years). Nothing. I checked the WD site and it says my Warranty expired in June (3 months after I bought it). When I go online to buy the same product again, it says there is a three year warranty. I opened a case with WD support. Three days later to ask me more questions and to upload pictures of the receipt and the label, which I did. They emailed me and asked me to upload the pictures because they were not in the original case (even though I did upload them). So, I sent them again yesterday. They wrote back to inform me that they did not get them again. I told them they did and I can see them attached in the Sent folder. THey are jerking me around and I am not going to take it. I will report them to the NY State attorney general’s office on Tuesday for trying to get out of this. I will never buy WD again if they do not make this right.

New WD My Cloud setup

WillA: The box says, “WD My Cloud” - model number WDBCTL0020HET. Looks like you have a very old single bay My Cloud device. If accessing MyCloud.com/Setup doesn’t work that may indicate that you have a first generation My Cloud which is no longer supported by the MyCloud.com website. Instead you can setup the single bay My Cloud by accessing the My Cloud Dashboard by inputting http://wdmycloud or http://wdmycloud.local into a web browser of a computer connected to the same local network as the single bay My Cloud. See the following WD Support documents on accessing the My Cloud Dashboard which includes directions on how to obtain the My Cloud’s IP address if the prior two web addresses don’t work. NAS = Network Attached Storage. Industry term. The WD MyCloud products are NAS units. Fundamentally, they are Storage devices attached to your network, available to all devices on your network To find your IP address of your device, check your router and look for a new device you don’t recognize . In windows, you might find the device in the “network section” of File Explorer. Is the device new? as in New-New, or is it used? You may have to do a 4 second reset (google is your friend) to wipe old network settings and get this properly on your network. Word to the wise: You may be tempted to the WD Home products. I have not looked at those devices in a while, but in 2026 I would avoid them. These devices have severly limited Operating Systems, and require the internet to initially configure. (Many don’t consider them true NAS devices for this reason)

IOS APP connection type is always relay

Hi again, while waiting an answer via this forum, I tried my wife’s iPhone and my kids iPhone, both of them also can not make a connection type local via app. But I tried android tablet, it can make local connection type via app. This means iOS app has a bug about making connection type local instead of relay according to me and my experience. am I only one has this problem? Please support.

How do I get the IP address of the cloud device?? Is this what you meant by the “NAS”?

New WD My Cloud setup

Oh boy! I’m getting the uneasy feeling that I purchased a device that is very old - I don’t have the device in front of me now (I am at on the road for work travel till Tuesday) so am unsure if first or second generation. Will look at your last message in more detail when I arrive at my destination this evening. Many sincere thanks for any guidance! 8) Kind Regards, Will

Is PR4100 Discontinued?

Awesome necro post advertising i-dunno-what. These are all usable boxes. . . for the right use cases. I have a few WD NAS units. Running rarely, but fine when they do. No internet functions - - straight up data storage in 2026.

WDBCTL0020HET? a 2TB MyCloud? Sticker on the bottom: Is in P/N WDBCTL0020HET-10 or WDBCTL0020HET-00?. Sorry - - - getting ahead of myself. -00 is 1st generation, not sold retail in like 10-15 years. -10 is 2nd gen, which has been off the market for. . .I dunno how long. While they can function , both the hardware and software are really obsolete. I suggest the best course of action would be to return for a full refund. There are other single drive NAS models people can recommend. If you can’t return. . . . well. . .we can talk. The 1st gen units can only run WD’s OS3 operating software, which you should never connect to the internet. If you use it, internet access to the device should be blocked at the router , not just from the device itself. (too many security vulnerabilities in the OS3 code) The 2nd gen units were sold with OS3 only (I believe) and can technically be upgraded to OS5 (WD’s current NAS software). While OS5 is technically supported, and technically can be connected to the internet. . .I wouldn’t upgrade this device to OS5. Leaving politics and personal speculation aside - - - OS5 won’t run well on this generation of hardware, and your experience will be better on OS3. I checked the mycloud/setup webpage. The icons on the page seem to be linking directly your devices admin webpage. . . . is your device connected to the router (via LAN cable) and turned on? Do you know if it is getting an IP address from your router (I would type the ip address of the NAS, and
