Key & Peele - Behind the Scenes with DP Charles Papert

Tonight, the new season of "Key & Peele" premieres on Comedy Central, at 10:30/9:30C for a ten-episode run. For those who may not be familiar with the show, it's a sketch comedy premise with an accent on high production values and a cinematic feel. Our daunting challenge is to achieve this on a basic-cable budget and a schedule of two to three sketches a day; my colleagues in the art, makeup, hair and wardrobe departments hit it out of the park every time, along with our talented and... Miller Tripods is closing down. :-(

As you may have seen on newsshooter.com: "Miller Tripods (officially called Miller Camera Support Equipment), a family business run by Mark and Diane Clementson, is said to be ceasing operations on 30 September 2026. Mark and Diane have decided to retire and shut down the business. From what I understand, they were looking for a buyer, but with no success." What are the do's & don'ts of selecting a business name?

Are there recommended best practices or do's & don'ts of selecting a business name? I remember reading something years back about how words like media & productions carry specific connotations, so it's important to pick a descriptor that aligns with the service that you offer. I see a lot of people using their surname, but I think my Nordic surname would be a poor choice, as nobody can figure out how to pronounce or spell it. I'm also averse to using my name because, I perceive people... Read more

The crazy price of storage!

I'm interested in what you all do for storage and backup. I shoot on Cfast 2 cards and the high speed SD cards in my Ursas. The edit computer has an internal 8Tb drive and a 4Tb internal drive. Shorter projects go on the smaller one, and theatre shows go onto the larger one but once they are complete, the older ones get transferred to an external 16Tb for archive, once I don't need to return to them. I've got a reasonably good housekeeping system where I tend to keep half a dozen shorter... Read more

SONY FX5 on a real project...

Thanks to Sony Italy, I had the opportunity to put the new FX5 through its paces on a real project I’m currently working on.I shot everything in X-OCN LT 5K open gate, using spherical lenses. The FX5’s sensor is truly wonderful, and I believe its performance sets a new benchmark for cameras of this type—and beyond. I hope you enjoy the video!

Deity PR-4 mirroless strategy

Hi Ive acquired the Deity PR4 audio recorder. for use with a mirror-less camera (canon R6, or R6v) This can work like a hotshoe XLR box to produce 48v power and feed the camera audio, but also do more complex audio too. One thing is I can roll wild track (room-tone) or just chatter without making monster camera files. Also I can remove it from the camera and give it to a 'boom' operator. Or hook it up to a desk DJ or some other sound source. Nice! On camera mode.. Can I feed TC into the... Read more

Panasonic Varicam LT MD to EF Adapter compatibility issue

Hello group! I'm hoping to get a recommendation of an MD (Minolta) to EF (Canon) mount adapter that will work on the Panasonic Varicam LT. I purchased an adapter but it did not work, the adapter will not tighten on the Varicam EF mount unfortunately. I have a mint set of Minolta Rokkor X lenses I would really like to use with the Varicam. Any suggestions would be VERY helpful. Thank you! -Tony
