We are looking to replace the current top mount double sink with a single. It’s just a bit too small to comfortably wash pans without slinging water everywhere. The current sink is 14x22 and I haven’t been able to find a suitable replacement. The closest thing I have found is this one from Scandvik but it’s an undermount and I am not sure it would fit right as the flange is only 1/2” wide. Has anyone else done this, or know of a source for odd-shaped sinks? I didn’t find any posts about it... Read more

Thread title formerly "Are Cockpit Speakers Necessary/" New gear has changed my mind about cockpit speakers--unfortunately too late to stop me from ripping big holes in the cockpit and installing permanent speakers of low quality and disappointing sound. Maybe if the sound were better I'd use them more. But not sailing in good air. Generally music seems right while lazing along in 8 knots, or in the slip when Manhattans are being poured. Perhaps you have noted the distinctive design of Persian gulf vessels. Short waterline, long overhangs. Western commerce abandoned that long ago. I asked AI (Google AI mode) for an explanation with a random prompt "why do persian Gulf vessels have long overhangs and short waterlines in contrast to Western vessels" I thought the answer was pretty good, considering it came back in 2 seconds, and seemed ready for any followup. I've searched, poked, prodded, and squinted at countless photos . . . . but I'm 800 miles from the boat and just had an idea about running electrics in the chart table seat, ie, the flip-up 'seat' at the chart table. I recall it fits an AGM battery, but I'm thinking of putting fuses and bus bars. I can't find measurements, even for just the cushion, which would be a great start. Does anyone have any excellent photos, perhaps measurements of the cushion or the space itself? Mine's a... Read more

As a relatively new owner of a 1984 Ericson 30+ sailboat, I am wondering what you would consider the most useful modification you've made to your boat. As Ericsons have many common characteristics, we can all probably learn from this. So far, I've been busy just ensuring everything is in working order, but I hope to begin upgrades next year. Hello! I have an '87 32-3 in St. Thomas with an 8' inflatable dinghy with a fiberglass hull. Last season I pulled the dinghy around on a single polypropelene line from a stern cleat to the U-bolt on the bow of the dinghy hull. I was hoping to hear some opinions on what's the best way to bring the dinghy on longer sailing days (for example st thomas to st croix). I can deflate it and store it on the bow, but it's pretty bulky and I'm not sure if the genoa would tack over it smoothly. Any... Read more
