At least you did not get skunked. On contest like that, I think it’s just a matter of knowing the area you are fishing and finding a good spot but you did good for being the first time to have fished there. Were you using cut bait or crawlers? Nice pics

At 84 years young, I can relate 100% to that video. I made the decision last year that fishing alone is no longer an option for me. Still going and doing - just not alone. Tight lines to all y’all.
As of last week it was fine ,water is lower ,but the ramp is okay .the docks are okay , some slips to park in if needed . Fish cleaning station is working , all the bathrooms are open etc .
Great advice from a fellow angler just a couple months older than me. He forgot another reason I like to fish with others. I have some great fishing stories to tell, but I’ve heard all of them.
Well, we fished the Catfish on the Green contest last weekend. It is put on by Emery County and they do a good job. Started fishing at noon on Friday. I found an area below an island that reportedly had a deeper hole. Due to thunderstorms upstream, the main flow was like chocolate milk. I tried fishing the seam between the faster and slower currents. I fished a Carolina (slip sinker) rig on one rod and a heavy slip bobber on the other rod. I ended up catching 11 channel cats in that spot, about 1 every half hour until the bite shut down. Longest was just over 21-1/2 inches. All were fairly lean. Like healthy, free range lean. I set up at Nefertiti (north end of the contest area) to fish over night. Had no luck on a Carolina or santee rig and got caught in rocks and had to break off repeatedly. Uggh! Also nothing on my slip bobber rig. I used a Whisker Seeker 3 oz weighted night bobber. It worked great. I tried to adjust it so bait was just off the bottom. Saturday morning we went to a spot below the diversion dam. I caught three cats there on my slip bobber rig in the eddy off the main flow along one of the outlets. By noon we were in line for the check in. My longest measured 21-5/8. I ended up just outside the top 10. The winner was 29-1/4 inches. We hung around for the raffle and each won a prize. Again, seemed well run. Total of over 120 people in men, women, and youth categories. Access to the river was probably the main issue. The stretch of river runs 28 miles from Nef

I watched that one and several others of his a while back. Those are good, but he tends to wander on topics.
I used to have a 1955 Mark 55 40hp Mercury outboard that ran similar to 32:1 mix. After digging up info on the different 2stroke oils and talking with a couple of oil techs, I started upping the mix to 40:1. I noticed from the start that the burn was less smoke. I continued with this mix with no complications as a lubricant. With the synthetic oils out on the market at that time has changed.
Great video well said! Thanks for sharing we don’t get younger! It has been said, and was our motto of sorts! Time spent fishing isn’t deducted from your life! But not being smart about it might have a negative affect. At any age we should be smart about our choices! Thanks for posting that!
