Rob's video 210 stoked some interesting points and got me wondering too. I had watched this video, thought right away "is there's any "magic"?" Answer: no, I didn't hear any magic. All the mics used are very decent, the Rode is very decent and well built and sounds fine. SM7b, AKG414, U87AI..classics. (Mic Preamps too, and again, no "Magic Dust Sound" in my preamps.) At least I could hear some differences with mics in tracks Ive done past 6 months, more so than preamps ... Read more

Anybody try the Black MOuntain Ring slide that is one size fits all spring loaded? You can play guitar with your fingers normal. Then slide when you want on a string or two.
I currently have the ATH m20x from Audio Technica. However when I record I get bleed from the headphones although they are supposedly closed back. This could be because I have the volume too loud, although I prefer to be able to clearly hear my voice in my headphones with the beat. Some Ideas I had where : The Vic Firth SIH2- these are a reasonable price and seem to have good isolation, although they are meant for drummers. Next I was thinking the Sony MDR-7506. Seem like the go to for... Read more

This one was based on an instrumental i did way back when, on a cassette-based multitrack machine. it was originally called "Pali Face". i always wanted to do a song version of this, and once i got the lyric idea, the arrangement came together nicely. as it is, i've done an instrumental version of "lost dream"... called "pali face", which is a full on fuzz pedal experiment!
I bought this guitar in 2009 or so. To get right to the point...it's full of ugly overtones regardless of the room I play it in. These ugly overtones manifest most brutally when I'm strumming chords around the first 3 frets. Like I'll play Am to G to C or something and there'll be this horrible 1khz (approx) overtone or sympathetic resonance or whatever you call it just underpinning everything played. If I strum some other chord there'll be ugly resonances at 700hz or 500hz, whatever. At... Read more
Hey y'all, I haven't been around much here, as life has been pretty full lately. Short story: My sister and I thought we were finally going to be moving our parents up from GA to be closer to one of us (she's in SD, and I'm in WI). Dad didn't want to move (he was 82), but mom has Alzheimer's, and it got to a point where he wasn't able to keep up by himself. Well, when I went down there to help start getting the house ready, Dad started complaining about pain in his stomach. Turned out to... Read more
Here is our latest single, The Letter. Tried to keep the production fairly simple for this one. Does it sound ok mix and productionwise? All comments appreciated. (Verse 1) There's nothing like the dark in December You didn't mind but my mind went fullI I spoke some words I barely can remember You were the toreador and I was the bull (Chorus) Listen now, let's talk it over Rocky Mountains stand between us This is why I write you this letter Come back, let's figure it out Grand Canyon lies... For the vintage lovers I love vintage gear, own several rack units and tube amps. But also some cool stuff I actually bought new. one of them is the VG-88 It's holiday time so I had some time to write an overview. If I missed something please let me know so I can add it.
Like walking back in time through decades of the most wonderful years of my life... Somehow I didn't smash it all up.. keep your shit clean...
Going the Distance Our latest collaboration. Gone a (little) bit heavier (for us). Let me know what you think. As always, I am interested to hear if you think it sounds like any other artists or songs, or what genre it would fall into. As well as suggestions for improvement. Cheers Going the Distance (Verse 1) There's a new day dawning The time has come for change You wake up every morning Every one the same. (Verse 2) The view might be quite... Read more
I grabbed this used ART MPAII. $200...Guitar Center 45 day return. PLugged it in and noise and waterfall hsssssssing and so popped in two tubes and it seemed to be working. But then I noticed it needs to be left on a little bit, 30 seconds or more. Then it seemed to have another problem and this was traced to the Gain knobs and if thwacked a little bit connected or dislodged the dust and worked fine. but then I noticed both Tube Warmth LED meters were reacting to my one channel Mic IN...
