My teenaged daughter has suffered from a recurring pilonidal cyst in her tailbone, likely caused from a tailbone fracture as she is a figure skater. Today we are at the Huntsville District Hospital in beautiful Muskoka, Ontario, Canada to receive the GIPS procedure from Dr. Hector Roldan, as he's the only surgeon in Ontario that does this minimally invasive procedure. We met with surgeons in Toronto and Vaughan who were only able to offer the very invasive incision and drainage removal... Read more

A quick background Active 25M, low body weight While living abroad last year, I made the unfortunate discovery of pilondial disease. I was working 12-hour days in an office chair. I was in an asian country, where it isn't common, and had difficulties getting it treated (I&D). The doctors there concluded I needed surgery, but I should wait till i got back to Canada, as they would be more experienced. Now, back in Winnipeg, I'm having trouble getting a non-open wound treatment (or... Read more

35m fit and athletic, but about to undergo my first pilonidal surgery. The cyst originally appeared about a week ago and started to leak/drain a bit a few days later. I’ve been self medicating (Aleve and Epsom salt baths) for the past 5 days and taking amoxicillin as prescribed by urgent care 2 days ago in advance of my surgery tomorrow. I’ve been reading various post-surgery guides and many say to wait 24 hours before driving a car, but has anyone been given any guidance on flying in an... Read more

Hi there, This will be a long post but for me the comprehensive 'story times' really worked best to off-set my own experiences and questions. So here you go.. hope it helps someone My situation I'm a 29 year old woman living in the Netherlands and I've been having trouble with a pilonidal sinus since I was about 20 years old. After sitting on a hard floor for some time with pressure on my tailbone I got a painful bump, like many of you.. It was not diagnosed back then and it... Read more

Hi! Apologies in advance for formatting - first time user of this forum (unfortunately not first time pilonidal diagnosis. they tend to come back and bite you in the ass. haha.) but I was hoping someone could give me some guidance on what to do. A couple years ago, I developed my first pilonidal, which was agony, but that eventually went away with antibiotics. Haven't had a single issue with it since. Until the 7th of this month (December), when I started developing a feeling I recognized. I... Read more
