Sbc 383 build - compression ratio and pistons

Rebuilding my 383 stroker this summer. It's at my buddy's engine shop right now awaiting tear down. Had a couple more questions regarding the compression ratio and pistons. Hoping some of you more experienced guys could provide some input. 1.) Can you safely run 10.5-11:1 static compression on a pump gas engine (93 octane)? 2.) The engine currently has hyper pistons in it. Should I stick with hypers or upgrade to forged (i.e 2618)? This will mainly be a street cruiser with... Sbc 383 build - compression ratio and pistons

Help choose a gear ratio

Need some opinions on choosing a new gear ratio. 70 Nova 400 blueprint Th350 Hughes 3000k stall 9” rear currently with 3.25 gear. 27” tire I originally went with a 3.25 gear to keep the rpm down a bit but I’ve come to realize it’s not the best gear for a 3000 stall and a 27” tire. Thinking about going to a 3.50 or a 3.70. Obviously wanting some more performance but also not wanting to be screaming at 65mph. Anyone have suggestions? Thank You.

Backfire in exhaust pipes

Just replaced intake gasket ,and rebuilt distributer set timing . Motor running great but it backfires out the exhaust. Also replaced all 8 plugs. Any suggestions from my nova family. It's a 383 stroker.

Fel-pro oil pan gasket in 64 nova

Has anyone ever used a fel-pro gasket on an original 64 nova v8 front pickup oil pan. I checked with summit racing and they sent a Fel OS34509T. However it does not seal around the pan and timing chain. Called, and they said to use a thick seal fel-pro OS34510T. After checking fitment through fel-pro web sight, that particular one fits 75-79 nova. Checked fitment on the OS34509T and it showed it fit 64-66 which I found that it didn't. Any ideas on which fel-pro gasket to use or should I... Fel-pro oil pan gasket in 64 nova

Power steering bracket tensioning slot/belt removal

73 nova custom that originally had factory ac. 350 vortec I am wanting to replace the power steering belt but can not for the life of me figure out how to use the one tensioning slot. Nova Stationary Quarter Glass

Looking for input on the stationary glass setup on my 69 nova. Does the roller mechanism need to be installed with the glass, or does the glass just get set in place and held with the tracks and/or sticky tape? Thanks in advance

74 Nova - PCV question

Hey Guys, I am adding a PCV value to my engine as it currently does not have one and I wanted to know if this is right approach: Small block 350 Demon carb Finned aluminum valve covers Finned breathers w/pcv inlets My plan is to come out of the carb and go into the driver's side with a vacuum hose and then drill and tap into the base of the air cleaner to go into the passenger site. ... 74 Nova - PCV question

Oil pressure sensor mounting for electrical gauge

I have mounted a '80s P30 step van set of gauges into a '65 SS gauge cluster. Now I need to mount the electric oil pressure sensor at the rear of the engine. My '79 010 350 ci engine came out of a G20 Van which had a sensor mounted to the 90 degree adapter shown at the rear of the engine. I can't remember what the size of that sensor was but it appears it was smaller than the one I have to use... Oil pressure sensor mounting for electrical gauge

Radio removal and re install

I want to remove my radio in my 64 wagon to do some modifications to it. Anyone have photos of the back of it. I know there is a bracket there and was wondering how difficult it will be.

Mechanical Temp gauge removal

I think I know the answer but figured maybe I’m wrong so here it goes. My 73 nova has a 2 hole panel gauge set under the ash tray with water temp and oil pressure. I have since added a voltmeter, tach, and will be adding an afr gauge this weekend. I’m wanting to change the double panel to a standard triple setup(oil pressure, volt, water temp). I already have the panel and was about to start working and started thinking maybe I shouldn’t just pull the retaining nut off the back of the temp... Mechanical Temp gauge removal
