Pace Model Ratings

I have developed a pace based model and although in the ratings below one ingredient is missing due to the fact that it is a new engineered ingredient and I have not implemented it into the daily dec's data yet, it is still a profitable model on top and joint top rated. Here are todays, use them or ignore The plan is to integrate these into my existing stacked model which also incorporates Betfair 1 min prices ala Benter, all of course provided they add any alpha when stacked ... Hong Kong Speed Figures

So having posted my data for Hong Kong racing, all results for the last 5 years, i thought it would be better to start a new thread to stop that being cluttered up on the Compiling Speed Figures Thread. For some reason, I am a compulsive collector of data but usually never get round to calculating speed figures. During the lockdown i had some thoughts on how to compile them and calculate going allowances for meetings. I messed around with old Racing Post Ratings for past UK and Irish racing... Read more

Horse Racing Trends

I like looking at trends and I've been having a look at how horse racing has changed since the start of the century There has been an increase in the number races in UK and IRE which is common knowledge, see in the figures below. In 2025 there were 2685 more races in the UK compared to in 2000, and 950 more races in IRE in 2025 compared to 2000. But in % terms that's a 36% increase for the UK and 49% for IRE. However the make up of the races has changed in places….. For... Read more

Compiling Speed figures.

The lbs per length which I devised for each course and distance can be obtained from my standard time list (see below) along with the furlong distances to use. I have highlighted the use of the lbs per calculation (Distance adjustment) below. So in this example, the lbs per length calculation for 5f trip at the Curragh is 3.37 , if a horse had run instead over 6f you would adjust the distance and use 2.82 lbs per length (See Standard times list). In this example I used Dave... Read more

Class/form horses

My Excel application is based around the three VDW elements - class, form and "the other factors" (which I assume means conditions such as going, trip etc) - but in part with different ways of assessing both class and form. As a test, I have added a new sheet to the application which uses what I think is the most detailed description of his method VDW gave us, that of the 1988 Mackeson won by Pegwell Bay. That illustration builds on what he described as the "first numerical picture" and set... Read more
