This last couple years has been hard for me to keep myself active with a blown out knee turning into a total knee replacement. This last few months I’m finally able to do a decent amount of daily steps. If I’m just messing around in the yard for half a day and the other half doing paperwork, I’m close to 6500 steps per day and walk about 3 miles. If I’m doing a small hike and then just goofing off it’s close to 10K steps +/-. Surprisingly if I go shore fishing for salmon w/waders, a pack... Read more

Not sure how I stumbled upon it but I found a recipe for " Tennessee Smokey Hot Dogs " and thought I would give it a try. I needed coleslaw anyway for the pulled pork I made over the weekend. Friends from lower Michigan suggested the best Coney Island Hot Dog Sauce I could find on my side of the puddle was from Hormel; they weren't wrong. I was slightly surprised how well the coleslaw and coney sauce paired together. I've always like a good chili cheese dog. This maybe my second favorite... Read more
OK not quite the "deal" I'd thought it was. Not NG it's LP but conversion is simple as RCS sells the proper orifices and regulator. (so $$$ to spend), They'd not used the grill in close to 5 years and a bird nested inside on top the burners. Of course the corrosiveness rotted the U shaped SS burners ($95 ea) and cannot find a generic. Other than dusty/dirty and animal (bird mostly) waste it's a solid piece. But also they bought it without casters (another project). It will need a lot of... Read more
For many years my wife and I visit Ocracoke Island in September with friends and family. This year the house we usually stay at had a fairly new Spirit E-210 on the lower house deck. I don't know if I was worried about grease fires or was just curious about current Weber drip trays and drip pan configurations but I decided to do a full cleaning of the trays, pans and grates. They were full of debris and the drip pan had a thick layer of liquid-like grease. I... Read more
Bought my WSM a couple of years ago, but a broken back and some knee surgeries got in the way. It's finally seeing its first smoke--a pork butt for pulled pork. With a last-minute, tossed together rub of brown sugar, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and granulated onion. Fingers crossed, I don't totally hose it!
A lot of people post curb alerts for regular Genesis grills in the "I will just leave this here" thread. I thought maybe we should have a separate threat for notifying list members of good deals on Weber grills. Other brand grills are fine to post, Weber accessories are good as well as coal burners and pellet burners. Here is one to get us started... Read more
Without going into great detail, I wanted to share an update on what had been a very stressful situation my Mrs have been facing. In review some routine tests in relation to some "digestive" issues she's been having they noted some little "growth areas" near and on appendix. Initially we thought she was facing major surgery with a lot of certainty. And as noted I'd been stressed and worried about it. Recently a trip to University of WI Medical School revealed what we thought would be a... Read more
Today's curb find (ok it was FB posted but it was on the curb 1/4 mile from my house) is a 1996 Master Touch. Missing its ash catcher, but having its grates and coal baskets. Assembled correctly but wobbly and a quick look showed major rust on the leg sockets. After a degreaser and pressure wash, it's bad. I can see the ground through the kettle around all 3 leg sockets. I hate giving up on a kettle, but this seems like it's done. At least... Read more
So I was bringing Blake back from soccer and there is only one ACE hardware left in Rockford and thankfully it's on my way back from the HS he was practicing at. So on a whim I stopped and bought one bag of Meat Church briquettes and one of B&B Orange bag "Competition" briquettes. Curious to see how those fare up to Kirkland Pro. Which the supply at my local Costco is dwindling at. Currently have 6 bags (30lb ea). I think I may snag 3 more if they have it next time thru there. That would... Read more
Guys, Wife got me early Father’s Day gift. Didn’t see much videos on it so made one to help new buyers to get a look This is such a easy pellet grill for a no fuss smoke a
I was at BJ's the other day and they had one random brisket that jumped in my cart - 12lb., $5.29/lb., choice. I have never cooked a brisket or anything that big except turkey. I don't even have a kettle or a smoker - just a Genesis gas grill. So I enlisted the help of my dad down the street. He has a bullet smoker and some experience smoking stuff, but never a brisket. He's also 84 but totally hip and with it. We are going to stay up all night at his house and have some family time... Read more
Go ahead, take your shots while you can. I'm looking at you, Larry. My younger daughter is now working at a nose-to-tail butcher and has come into possession of a pig head that she wants me to cook. I know not of the breed nor the size but I do know that it's been skinned (a Texas Chainsaw Massacre/Motel Hell mashup comes to mind). The lack of skin and subcutaneous fat has me stumped. All of the cooked pig heads I've encountered have been roasted or barbecued with the skin on and... Read more
