I am looking to build up a P11 engine, I have crankcases and crankshaft. So question, a P11 engine is basically a 750 Atlas engine so will things like barrels, rods, cylinder head etc from a 750 Commando work with these crankcases ? Thanks Richard

Got an odd one. The rear brake pedal on my 73' Commando will be adjusted properly, then I will hear a little "pop" and I will have an inch or so more free play. I ordered up a new cable, just wondering if anyone else has seen this and where else I should be looking. So far I can recreate the problem but cannot see just where this "pop" is coming from. Thank you for your feed back, Jon
Has anybody ever tried enlarging an idler shaft to to fit snug in the engine case. The bore isint that bad. It looks like a thou or two. I can remove it by hand. Or has anyone tried making one oversized. I tried copper plating at home but it didnt change dementionaly after several coats. Or do they sell them in oversize. My brother has a lathe to make one but what about heat treating and scrolling. The shaft does have a slight wiggle side to side so didnt thing putting it back in with a... Read more
I am shimming the crank shaft on my G15cs and to save trashing bearings ive decided a different approach. Ive taken internal case dimensions (bearing seat to bearing seat) subtracted the crank (Cheek to cheek) to come up with bearing allowance. After the bearings have been subtracted i have allowance for shimming .007 on the timing side and .0192 on drive side. I believe the timing side should have the lease amount of play considering this was the intention of the original ball bearing on... Read more
Does anyone know what the story is with the non-functional RGM website? I am trying to buy their T-160 style Folding kickstarter for the Commando but I am getting nowhere….fast! The “buy” button on the site is not working, the E-MAil contact template is not working and my attempts to get purchase information from them via alternative E-Mail addresses has been cryptic and un-productive. Are they really in business currently? I don’t think I have ever experienced such a disfunctional... Read more
Hi all, While giving the 961 a wash the other day I had the left blinker fall off into my hand with the tinkle of plastic pieces hitting the driveway. On inspection the tail piece has cracked and fractured, right hand side was not far behind. Does anyone have a spare tail/number plate piece for sale? Or where I might be able to purchase an after market one? Either CF or moulded plastic, at this stage beggars can't be choosers. I have sent emails to several companies but have not... Read more
Is it possible to make light weight piston from a standard piston.
Hello all. I am looking for suggestions as to the best EI for the 1970 Interceptor 750. I bought the bike recently and managed to get spark to the points. Changed the oil. Have not gotten it started yet. Any suggestions as which EI system may work best? I use a Boyer Mk 4 on my Norton after problems with two Pazon ignitions. Norton runs great now. Thankyou, Robert.
As previously introduced, I won a '74 Commando (I see I typed 72 for some reason) on Iconic Auctions back in January for some damn reason. I don't have enough to do, apparently. The seller was Mike Seate, publisher of Cafe Racer Magazine, where the bike was a project bike. It has some nice stuff on it, best bit being an Alton electric start, which I have managed to screw up while it's been in my possession. I spoke with Mike over the phone while arranging transportation and he assured me... Read more
I have fitted up a sidestand to my Mk3. With the stand deployed the bike leans excessively and is pretty well useless. The bush that came with it was like the proverbial "dick in a shirtsleeve" - I made another which lifted the bike maybe 10 degrees. The mount on the frame does not appear to be damaged and I do not think the bike has been in any sort of accident that could have moved the mount. I bought the stand from a supplier here in Oz and it is branded RGM. Has anyone had a similar... Read more
Hi there! My name is Jimbo and I am new to the forum and, to some extent, Norton motorcycles. I work at a classic car and restoration garage. I have a 1967 Norton Atlas cafe racer project that I inherited from my late father. He was an Engineer and avid modifier. He often lamented turning this “donkey into a racehorse”. This bike hasn’t run since the 90s and was taken completely apart a few years ago when he cashed in his pensions and went on a spending spree. It was then we discovered... Read more
I have a brand new cylinder block from AN for my 750. The tappet location plates from old cylinder do not fit. The slots in the new cylinder are narrower. If I simply file them down then they will be too thin for the tappets... Why would the new cylinder be different and what is the solution? Thanks
