apogee boom audio interface with dsp

This looks like an interesting device Apogee Boom brings its DSP-powered plugins to a budget-friendly audio interface - Engadget It looks like most audio interfaces, but the Boom packs a DSP without the pro price-tag. www.engadget.com Anyone used it or anything like it?

UMIK-1 vs Dayton EMM-6: significant differences despite individual calibration files. Which one should I trust?

Hi everyone, I have a miniDSP UMIK-1 that I normally use to tune the audio system in my car. I recently decided to buy a Dayton Audio EMM-6 as well, mainly because I wanted to measure time delays more accurately using a loopback timing reference, which I couldn't do with the UMIK-1 since it is a USB microphone. Since I now had both microphones available, I decided to compare them, but the results were somewhat puzzling. I placed both microphones in exactly the same position, with the... Read more

Classic Audio by Michael Fidler

What's your experience with this brand of MM/MC preamps? I have a couple of tables. Lenco L78 with an AT120E (MM) Thorens TD 125 with a Sumiko Olympia (MM) Acceptable SNR/Distortion, no serious power supply artifacts, high headroom at all frequencies are my preferences. It doesn't have to have the highest SINAD, this medium has severe shortages anyways.. What's another slam dunk phono for under $150 ? Schiit or Pluto or Emotiva ? My preamp/ADC/DAC is an RME ADI-2 Pro FS. I don't want to... Read more

MIMO Integration of Four IB Subs in a FOH-Style Home Theater

What if your home theater operated like a professional Front-of-House (FOH) audio system? This question has been addressed, and my home theater is now more enjoyable and better sounding than ever. I’ve written a paper, The Front-of-House Cinema, describing a real-time DSP approach to home theater audio. A VST plugin processing chain provides the solution in one workflow. The paper covers the reasoning behind each processing stage, the signal routing, and the settings used. It also includes... Read more

Experimental music, modular synth, 21st Century, field recording, new electronic, and ambient - tracks, artists, and instruments you have discovered

I'm not talking dance music, another topic. And me, personally, raised on pop, classical, and jazz, I would not expect everybody on ASR to be interested or even like it. My younger friends are all about modular synth, micro synth, and hybrid laptop performance. It is a revival of the great modular synth era of Moog, Buchla, Oberheim, and others which followed the musique concrète movement. Modular synth is exploding propelled by the Eurorack format. The micro synth, with early... Read more

Master "deals" Thread on Movies/TV Shows on Physical Media (DVD/Blu-ray/4K UHD)

Amazon (USA) is currently selling the complete 'I Love Lucy' TV series on 33 Blu-ray discs for $40.49: Amazon.com: I Love Lucy: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] : Various Contributors, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, William Frawley, Richard Keith, Various Contributors: Movies & TV Amazon.com: I Love Lucy: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] : Various Contributors, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, William Frawley, Richard Keith, Various Contributors: Movies & TV www.amazon.com Consider reviewing the comments in the thread on this set at Blu-ray dot com. The consensus is the transfer to 1080p Blu-ray disc could have been handled better but the set is an improvement over the set on DVD. One disc has an error and is eligible for a replacement disc. Post #1296 to the thread has... Read more

Comfortable headphone suggestions for an 8 year old.

Hi, Last year I gave my daughter a little CD boombox and she enjoys using it. She has a pair of kid wired headphones but they are on-ear. She just got glasses and no longer wears those headphones because they uncomfortable. I'd like to get her a new pair that is comfortable for her so she can continue listening to music (she listens with the speakers too, but I think she likes the privacy of headphones). She's only 8 and moderately clumsy so I don't want anything too expensive, but at the... Read more

$100 headphone recommendations for music production (include mixing and mastering).

Hello everyone. I discovered this site recently, and after spending a short time here, I’ve found it to be incredibly useful and decided to make my first post here. I’m currently a third-year university student and what people call a "bedroom producer". I focus heavily on electronic music. However, like many others in my position, acquiring gear considered "professional" is virtually impossible. My current setup for making music consists of the Crinacle Zero Red IEMs and a FiiO Snowsky... Read more

Wharfedale Super Linton still a bit too fresh/bright for me, would the Linton 85 be more relaxed?

Hi everyone, I’m very sensitive to treble and upper-midrange energy. I tend to react quickly to speakers that sound too fresh, open, forward, or bright in that area. At the moment I have the Wharfedale Super Linton at home. Overall, I do like them. They sound clean, refined, and definitely more relaxed than some speakers I had before. So I’m not saying they are harsh or aggressive. But for my personal taste, they still sound a little too fresh/bright overall. What I’m missing is a bit... Read more

Yamaha R-S202 Receiver Review

This is a review and detailed measurements of the Yamaha R-S202 Receiver (tuner plus stereo amplifier) with Bluetooth. Money was kindly donated by a member for me to purchase it new for $200 from Amazon. The R-S202 harkens back to the old days of receivers being the most popular way to play your content with inclusion of AM/FM receiver and preamplifier to select among your inputs. Alas, the volume control is the new incarnation with poor/stiff feeling but otherwise, a lot is... Read more
